New Brad Sucks CD: "Out of It"

Creative Commons folk hero musician Brad Sucks has a new album out: Out of It! Brad sez, "It’s got ten songs, you can pay what you want, it’s available in CD, MP3 & FLAC. There’s no stupid DRM and it’s Creative Commons licensed. CD purchases get instant downloads and the full audio multi-track source will be available." Brad Sucks: Out of It (Thanks, Brad!)

Just got my pre-order cd in the mail today. Great album art, excellent album.

Great music! I'd never heard of him before this, but I'm liking it!

Definitely reminds me of Beck, without being too derivative.

I'd love to buy this, but the bit rate on the downloads is pathetic. Does the CD offer a higher bit rate than the downloads? 192kbps mp3 files are just not good enough quality for my ears.

"Does the CD offer a higher bit rate than the downloads?"

logic error, brain exploding

Been listening to this since last weekend; I'd already heard all the tracks in various demo forms, but some of the new mixes are huge improvements over what were already excellent songs.

I'm already looking forward to his next album.

If you get the CD, you can rip the tracks at whatever bitrate you want. It's also got the tracks on it as (I think) 256kbps MP3s.

For those of you who are just discovering Brad Sucks for the first time, don't forget his first album, "I Don't Know What I'm Doing." It helps the day go by a little faster if you're stuck inside a cubicle all day. I first heard about Brad through CBC Radio 3.

It's perhaps worth noting that Brad Sucks music is also used on Athene videos. I knew I'd heard that voice somewhere before, "Ain't nobody around..."

I'd need a double blind test to confirm before I believe your bat-like ears can hear the difference.

Look, I've got over 500 CDs in my collection. I know all about CDs. What confused me was the reference to the CD's songs being in mp3 format and at 192kbps bit rate. I you want to pick on someone, pick on the stupid marketing person who put together that page. Thank you. LOL.

He didn't say the songs on the CD were 192kbps MP3s. He said "High quality MP3s are included on the CD," i.e. IN ADDITION TO regular CD-quality music. You can also click on "More Buying Options" to buy the songs in FLAC format, if you prefer.

BWAHAHAhahahaha!

Anyone got a link to some nice hi-res album art?

Nevermind, it's in the zip file. Thanks Brad! That doesn't suck at all.

@14,

I thought you were making a joke about the blockiness of the album art...

Meanwhile, Creative Commons folk-NOBODY John Voorhees has all his stuff available for pay-what-you-want download as well.

I'm just saying.

What is the URL to download the FLAC format version? I was going to toss them up onto the Internet Archive: Open Source Audio. They could also go on the Wikimedia Commons, and referenced on the Wikipedia article for Brad sucks.

p.s. Nice to see someone releasing a "hybrid" CD that includes the MP3s pre-ripped on the track 0 ISO 9960 partition, with the RedBook CDDA on tracks 1-99. I don't think I've seen that since the late-1990s.

There's a neat shareware (anybody remember shareware?) audio recording / MIDI sequencing program called Reaper (www.reaper.fm). The demo project included with it is a Brad Sucks song. I thought it was just the developer's alter ego... once again BB proves me wrong.

Brad is also the person behind www.stripcreator.com, an easy to use create your own comics site, where you can, for example,

Also maybe worth a mention: Downloadable Rock Band track featuring Brad and MC Frontalot, via Penny Arcade. I'm intensely jealous. Speaking of which...

Heh. Hiya, Mr. Vorhees.

Instead of helping educate me you poke fun at me. So much for BoingBoing being for intelligent and friendly folks. Meh. :p

Gary, I'm sure it was all in good fun..

It was a simple mistake to make, and it was picked up on for humourous effect (least of all for the fact that BB is populated by tech geeks, amongst others).

A heartfelt sorry if you were genuinely offended, although my comment still stands. (maybe not "fakest", most sarcastic perhaps?)

I wasn't offended so much as I was disappointed. I appreciate your comments. Thanks. Yeah, it was a sarcastic LOL. SLOL?

I can see now that it's a normal CD and you get extra MP3 tracks. So that answers my question about being able to rip to a bit rate that satisfies my ears. I ordered the CD.

As for tech geeks, I've been one since I was 16 (I'm 52 now) and working part-time proofreading punched/paper tape for a bank I wound up working at for 17 years after getting two degrees: Journalism and MIS. I left to pursue a career as an independent software developer.
