LED Football for the iPhone

Mark Helmuth has developed a 1970s-style electronic football game for the iPhone. I wonder if it also emulates the sound of me crying when my older brother won't let me have a turn. Rob has the details over at Boing Boing Gadgets. iNostalgia! Old-school Football on iPhone (BB Gadgets)

WOW. I had completely forgotten about that game. My brother and I would fight for hours over that thing. That image brings back some memories.

Now for the one with the little figures that worked their way across a vibrating metal plate...

Sort of a hybrid between the Coleco Electronic Quarterback and the Mattel Football, looks like?

I miss handheld LED baseball. I suspect it might not have even been LEDs. I never could hit the ball on the higher skill level. Lots of wasted hours there, let me tell you.

There is no way the emulation can rock as hard as the original... part of the joy of the game was learning how to jam-tap the run button so fast that you could score a TD every play......

... I'll still be buying it, of course.

My brother and I created a flash version of this game sometime ago. Feel free to play the game at http://www.nearestexit.com/projects/football/football_keys.html

This version let's you use the mouse or the keyboard, just don't blame us if you break the keyboard from repeatedly hitting those arrow keys!

I was at the thrift store with my older sister a few weeks ago, and I found one of these - instant deja vu/flashback to hours spent engrossed in this tiny world populated by red led's as a pre-teen. I showed it to my sis, and was like "remember this?" she also did a deja vu double take. I love LED football.

I still have the LED Football 2, which was handed down to me from my parents. It still works fine, except that I broke the sound years ago. This was a good thing.

I got a Mattel Football game for Christmas when I was eleven or twelve. I loved that thing so much, it broke my heart when it died on me. I don't have an iPhone or an iPod touch, but if I ever got one, I'd buy this in a heartbeat.
