Thanx enikleestack - I like that there's more than one photo of stylish unknown people posing with their equally stylish portraits...perhaps there's a whole set out these stylish photos waiting to be found "out there".
These photos possess, inter alia, a temporal pathos, IMO, accentuated by the anonymity of the subjects (Who has a portrait done, who also wishes to remain anonymous? Rather the oppo I think.). These photos allow and invite you to compare and contrast "reality" vs "idealism", but over time...of the subject...but yet both only representations, now anonymous, the photo portrait, the "painted" portrait. Compare especially the clothing in the portraits to that worn by the living persons...these photos also speak to the objectification of self, both by the subject's clothing choices and by approval/adoption of the plastic (self?) representation. And, of course, to our objectification of these subjects as well. Many levels here...
A newly-discovered genre of found photos?
What we really need to see is a photo showing the same lady contemplating this photo, but taken years later. I'll start looking for it right away.
This is a fantastic link!
Like looking through a key hole into others lives and another time.
All from a era when photography was complex, a bit costly and not nearly as prevalent as today.
It raise more questions than answers and displays how much fun a camera used to be.
Thanks for the great link!
Oy do I feel old, but how can I be the first to point this out? Those are so not extensions! That, my young friend, is a fall. Or perhaps even a wiglet.
Next time you go into a bookstore or a library, check through the Danielle Steele section for some of her author pics. Very similar but, you know, more elegant.
That's umm... flattering.
nice to know she still uses the same hair extensions.
This has a creepy Night Gallery/Rod Serling vibe, doesn't it?
Ah, this reminds me that I want to get my portrait painted.
I think the portrait is a rare example of "Reverse Dorian Gray" style.
I would honestly LOVE to own that painting. SOOO awesome!!! It could really pass for a 'Disney's Haunted Mansion' prop!
Anon #5: You stole my snarky Wilde reference!
For what it's worth, here's my own similar photo, recently thrifted:

Perhaps I'll add that the spooky portrait, itself, is for burning, should it ever fall into my possession.

She aged predictably, and well.
#11:
Step away from the thesis.
#11 You hit it right on the head!
According to Judas Gutenberg,
"People tend to stick with the hairstyle they had when they first got laid."
I think this picture can be entered as Exhibit A.
FWIW I agree with Mr. Banks. V.Vodka also has a point but perhaps his hair covers it.( Just joking, Mr. Vodka.)

But not extensions.
It's kind of sad, she doesn't look happy in either portrait.
