Burlesque Chicken Commercial

Shane Glines found this funny and well-made chicken commercial on YouTube.

I was excited to find this rare commercial produced by José Luis Moro's "Estudios Moro". The studio, run by José and his brother Santiago from 1955 through 1970 produced many animated commercials in addition to the animated series The Cantinflas Show and La Familia Telerin.

What a cheeky chicken ;)

Too bad she ended up in the pot though.

No doubt, Shane plugged "stripping chicken" into Google one night. ;)

Is it just me? I find ads anthropomorphizing animals we eat to be creepy. (Well, of course, it could be that eating animals is creepy and the anthropomorphic animations just remind me of that fact.)

it assuages the killer's guilt since the food asks to be eaten

Eating animals isn't creepy; alot of animals eat other animals.

but only humans dress them up first

I enjoy the pretty animation, but am unsettled by the way that the (anthropomorphised) hen is grabbed, killed and consumed after doing a sexy dance for the roosters. The trope of a female being subjected to violence "because of" a display of sexuality or desirability on her part strikes too close to home. "Asking for it" indeed...

Yeah, that commercial (and, actually, Roast Beef's analysis!) could have come straight out of the great classic book "The Pornography Of Meat." This ad is NOT as creepy as the creepiest thing in that book, though: a sharp metal hook for poultry cooking, sold in a packaging with a sexy-looking cartoon of a turkey on it. Emblazoned above, the product name: "TURKEY HOOKER."

Reminds me of an old Saturday Night Live parody commercial I saw years ago with a cartoon chicken cheerfully narrating his own butchering, processing and preparation.

"Say, Clucky, how come you taste so good?"

Beautiful animation. I love it and I'm a vegetarian!
