bubbleman,

I am polite to other posters, stay on topic and don't use profanity. Where the hell is the moderation thread?

Amy's a nice painter but I am amazed at how any times she gets featured on this site.

I can think of 1 or 2,000 artists who could use a little airtime themselves.

Thanks Antinous, but my point was to make note of the over-saturation of one artist vs. make a post which I am quite capable of doing without guidance.

In that case, Bucolic Hooligan, if you don't like the content, don't read it.

I agree: There are so many other deserving artists BB could spotlight. It seems that between Coop and AC, that covers about 90% of the artist/painter posts on BB.

"deserving". OK, if they are so deserving, throw your resources into showcasing them. Go for it.

BucolicHooligan, the "defensiveness" is because we get a lot of jerks coming in here and deciding that they know better than the Boingers what to post about. And we've learned, the hard way, that if you let jerkish behavior go unpunished, it attracts more jerks, and eventually drives away the people who are actually worth listening to.

As far as feedback goes, well, Antinous provided you with feedback on your comment. You don't seem to like it, and yet you responded anyway. Why not take your own advice?

Why so much bitterness over one mention of an artist? Jeez. If there's something better to blog, suggest it, but where's the sense in bitching about what's already up?

I read boingboing semi-religiously, and I certainly don't feel inundated by Crehore...

@ARTBOT, I gotta say that if you think that Crehore and COOP are 90 percent of the art covered on BB you haven't been paying much attention. I probably post several times a week about different artists that interest me.

Forgive a possible repeat, but nobody shares Mark's obsession with this artist. Is she from the island you lived on, Mark? Why is all the art on bbnet an echo chamber for six other websites? I've been reading for seven years and I hold Boing Boing in much higher regard than perhaps it deserves.

Enough of people's tiresome critiques on the bloggers' choice of what to blog about! Boing Boing isn't some kind of public service—it's an expression of personality in a public forum. The bloggers are not beholden to us or anyone else as to what they choose to write about. Boing Boing is merely the random musings/observations/inspirations of six (extraordinary) people. If you want more, you should know that there's a whole internet out there filled with a wide variety of things—feel free to explore it. But don't act like these folks are somehow LIMITING you in your quest for enlightenment. Give them a break!

Thanks, all. I really appreciate it.

I post about an awful lot of painters, illustrators, cartoonists, sculptors, and other artists. I post about Amy Crehore's work a lot because I like it a lot. I think she's technically gifted, and her work is surprising, strange, funny, and often sweetly sad.

I don't mind that others don't like her art, but people complain about the fact that I like it can take a flying fuck at a rolling donut.

Thanks, Ape Lad. All the artists I know really like (and many buy) Amy's work.

I guess some people don't get it. Hey, gripers, you've been invited to a party. You don't have to go. But if you do go, and it sucks, you know how to leave the same way you came, right? Tell your friends, if you have to, Man, those parties really suck! Don't tell the hosts, because they're busy, they have guests to see to. BB's a party; so relax, kick back—or split. Go seek wild orgiastic fun elsewhere.

Really, I'm always glad to see new stuff by Amy Crehore and some of the other artists featured on BB. And Ape Lad, too. Totally different styles, but both usually make me smile.

In a quick search, there were more than a dozen AC related posts in the last year. For better or worse, BB has a lot of influence in the bloggy sector. People find out about a lot of neat new stuff here. Instead of the "I hate her work/Y'all can goes somewhere else iffin ya don't like it" polemics on display here, I was merely pointing out that there are many other gifted artists who would kill for the exposure here, some of whom Mark F. & Co. might even like. Just sayin'.

And Mark, okay, I exaggerated. It's probably more like 70%. :-P

Crehore's a great artist, but... would it kill her to try a different subject once in a while? Say, dogs playing poker? I'm just sayin'.

The art's nice, but it makes me laugh that posts like this go up while BB expresses indignation that filters occasionally list them as pr0n. Just because it's art doesn't it's not porn to some.

If she tried a different subject she'd find out rather quickly how "talented" she is. Guys like looking at nude young women. The odd settings are just the conceit.

Take a look at this

Artbot, would you like to place a small wager on that 70%?

Nobody's stopping you from putting up a website that features all those other deserving artists. It won't have the same immediate effect as applying Boing Boing's traffic to your tastes, but who's to say what it might do over time?

Mark likes what he likes, just like every other member of our species. That's proverbially indisputable. All you can accomplish by telling people that their tastes suck, and what they ought to like instead is (fill in the blank here), is to make them dislike the artist(s) you recommend, and art criticism in general.

1. "over-saturation" is a subjective judgment. Which belongs to the editor. As far as MY personal taste goes: keep em coming.

2. your minor google list means nothing by itself.

Judge for myself? i believe that is what I have already done. Now put your time to more constructive use.

"Now put your time to more constructive use."

What could be more constructive than a minor google search?

Let me count the ways;

1. Engaging in useless internet arguments.

2. Calling BS then ignoring an impartial source of information.

3. Forgetting to number my bullet points.

#36 - Teresa - I'm sorry you find it necessary to rebut what you *think* I said, as opposed to what I *actually* said. I never said anyone's taste sucked, nor did I say anyone should like the artists I like (which is one of the reasons I didn't list any). Honestly, I think my criticism is pretty valid. What's wrong with mixing it up a bit? Surely there are many other artists the mods here like and could share?

Take a look at this

Honestly, I think my criticism is pretty valid.

To be valid, it would have to be relevant. Since Mark posts what amuses him, you're simply criticizing his interests.

#35: quoting the artist: “I guess I am hooked on painting nude women now. It’s an archetype of beauty and represents naturalness. It’s a classic motif throughout art history, yet most nudes were posed,” Crehore said. “My nudes are actually doing things, and they are imaginary. They are very comfortable without clothes. It’s hard to paint clothes anymore.”

For anyone interested, Amy Crehore has a 5 artist show opening (with fellow artists Jenn Porreca, Molly Crabapple, Ewelina Ferruso & Lizz Lopez) on Friday, July 25th from 7-10pm here at Ad Hoc Art Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. Out of curiosity, i am wondering if any of the negative posts written here are from other artists? Or are you in your sorry ass cubicle job, only wishing that you could do what Amy has done, and now lives off of making and showing her work.

Amy Crehore has been in the industry for a long time. So, fellow Googler, if you look at the dates Amy has been listed on Boing Boing, you might see that it dates back many years, likely long before you even knew what fine art really is. Or is it that you only happen to read this site once a year?

I think her work is fantastic, stands the test of time, and will be here for some time to come. Being an artist is an arduous job, and so, to those "naysayers" i say, try walking a mile in the shoes of a living artist before saying negative things about your contemporaries. So what if they feature her art often. Read another blog. Perhaps you're angry because you're still TRYING to MAKE IT in the art work while working your two part time jobs and barely selling your art? Hmmmmmmm....food for thought.

Come to Ad Hoc Art Gallery and talk smack to amy's face and wll smck y dwn. Cwrd
