For the GetBack music blog, Gil Kaufman posted "5 Reasons Why... Devo Are The Coolest Nerd Band Ever." How many people remember their appearance on the short-lived Square Pegs, the 1982-1983 high school sitcom starring Sarah Jessica Parker? The band performed at Muffy Tepperman's Bat Mitzvah party.

I saw Devo two weeks ago in Boston - they are still awesome! It made me think about the last time I saw them at the Orpheum which lead me to this post:

My bad - apparently it was drummer John Densmore, not Manzarek.

"John Densmore appeared in several episodes of "Square Pegs" in 1982, which get re-run periodically on TV Land channel. June 28th is another broadcast of the "Open 24 Hours" episode #1.8, first broadcast November 22, 1982"

#1 - Cracks me up. I've never been able to get the song out of my head either.

#5 - It's fascinating that John Densmore was in some episodes. He was the talented, yet shy one in the doors. Robby Krieger was the talented, self-assured one. Ray Manzarek was the talented, faux intellectual douchebag and Jim was, well, Jim.

This is a little bizarre. The episode was the first time I'd ever heard of Devo. And that episode is the only episode of Square Pegs I remember, even though I watched it all the time. Given that I've never knowingly listened to Devo, 'Square Pegs' and 'Devo' are curiously synonymous for me.

And since I've had kids 'Rugrats' are now synonymous with 'Mark Mothersbaugh.'
