Free papercraft game-terrain

Stones Edges offers free samples of their papercraft game-terrain -- check out the full (and reasonably priced) sets, which allow you to build entire, elaborate multi-level scenes out of paper and glue. And the free stuff's great too: Whose desk wouldn't benefit from some 1" paper crates? Link (Thanks, Eclecticos!)

Mmmm... crates. As ubiquitous in games as flies in a dungheap. Also, supposedly a measure of the developer's sloth: http://www.oldmanmurray.com/features/39.html

Only if I can break one open and find "Theodin's Superior Great Bloody Stomping Boots of Greed" to complete my quest on level 4.

Yeah yeah, I know you're all squinched up playing Diablo III, but I'm still playing Fate, so bite me.

Nono, go ahead. I'm poison resistant! :p

In the games industry us artists tend to think of our carrers in terms of how many crates you've built.

I have forgotten exactly how many I've built.

Tooo many, for too many crappily designed games.

Count how long from Start of play to sighting your first crate.

This is also used as a gauge of how bad a game will be.

my least favourite crates are the 'shift-em-around-to-get-through-here-puzzle' crates. i remember being very pissed off having to do that in a broken sword game. that wasn't what i bought a broken sword game for!

Portal was just one long variant on the crate-moving puzzle game.

This is awesome. For reals. I'm so glad I didn't add "papercraft" to my RSS delete rule, currently consisting of "steampunk," "handsome watch," and "Web Zen." Cory must have a little gamer in him (figuratively speaking, of course), b/c he gives us a little love every now and then.

@ error 404:

You're talking about video game crates? I agree, there seem to be many more crates in computer games than could possibly be found in a crate factory perhaps? Would look cool in a tabletop game though.

It's good to see Old Man Murray referenced in the first post.

We need a version of the crated with the OMM logo on them.
