Nomad cardboard room-dividers
I like the look of the Nomad room-dividers: stack 'em up, reconfigure 'em, and they look damned cool.

Made from recycled, double-wall cardboard, Nomad is a modular architectural system that can be assembled into free-standing, sculptural screens, temporary partitions, rooms or even displays without hardware, tools or damage to existing structures. Available in nine colors, Nomad can be arranged into open or closed configurations; creating private environments or light and airy dividers. The Nomad system can be configured to create entry-ways and corners, easily adjusting to any indoor space.

Yeah sure, until they figure out you're not "the Creator" and decide to destroy your starship and your home planet just like they did to Malur.
2 words: Fire Hazard.
they do make spray on fire retardants
As a matter of fact, Tak -- they do.
You should be able to pick it up at your local paint store/construction store.
And it only becomes a fire hazard if you are careless. If you decide to build a fireplace mantel out of it, that's pretty careless. If you decide to put it next to your two unit outlet that has 10 different things plugged into it, that's pretty careless.
So, yeah -- it'll burn -- just like 99% of everything else in the room that it's going to be set up in.
2 words: Fire Hazard.
No kidding -- just like the papers on your desk, the books on your shelves, the wood furniture in your office... what's your point? That paper burns?
These are similar to the bloxes posted a couple months ago. Similar price, too.
Im not a mechanical/architecture geek but a passive observational enthusiast. But I see these things and then the price tag that goes with them, and think WTF?! This is just cardboard! Anyone in the papercraft community think of creating something with the stronger stuff? A modular system like this which a person could print plans make a template and cut a whole bunch out and able to go nuts with cool building ideas. Yes its a lot of work for the person making the stuff, but makers rarely scoff at such things, and if they don't want to spend the time, they can buy something like Nomad instead.
EAT THAT oak-paneled cubicle guy!
I think it's a great concept, and admire that it's recycled, but personally I wouldn't pay for it because my cat would just chew it up. I would, however, be tempted to make my own out of old boxes if there were some plans like #6 suggested. It initially seems like a pretty simple design, but then I try to look closer at it and figure it out and it just makes my brain hurt.
If you follow the link to the nomad site, you can see a close up of what the individual pieces look like. Wouldn't be too hard to make your own pattern. As someone who lives in a tiny NYC apartment, I see no use for these though. The last thing I need is more walls i my place.
Two words: Dust collector.
two words:
vacuum cleaner
four words:
dust collector vacuum cleaner!
"Vacuum Cleaner"? Can you not *see* the nooks and crannies in there? That would take forever.
Cool as they may be, they are a perfect breeding ground and hiding place for dust-bunnies, because the effort required to clean them is relatively large, nullifying the convenience gains.
I have the same objection to Bloxes, BTW.
As a consequence, these solutions are really only suitable for the most temporary of structures (measured in weeks, not months).
