Short film with smiling giant pencil and a girl

Miss Cellania of Neatorama blogged about this eerie short film featuring a giant pencil with a lewd grin and a girl who draws with it a la Harold and the Purple Crayon, but it has no credits. Anyone know the source?

UPDATE: It was made at the Savannah College of the Arts, and was written and directed by Christian Simmons. Heres a high-quality version of the film. Here's a behind-the-scenes video.

Looks like it comes from my school, Savannah College of Art and Design. I went on a google trip to find out the credits myself:

I agree. Amazingly eerie.

Sweet surrealist goodness. I had an inkling as to how it would end... I was right.

Excellent that. Also reminiscent of Simon in the land of Chalk Drawings. Harold was cool too though :)

Maybe she got sucked into the world of odd, giant anthropomorphic office supplies. Staples for the power mushroom'd Mario, if you will.

With the face of Gilbert Gottfried.

I was expecting an Aphex Twin song to start by the time it finished.

The eyes and teeth of the pencil are reminiscent of WWII cartoon propaganda caricature/stereotypes of the Japanese.

Kind of like a really short episode of The Twilight Zone.

Thanks,

For whatever it is worth, I cannot "unsee this" now.

I do want to know what it is or is from and who did it, but it is unpleasantly like being drunk in the Douglas Adams sort of way.

This somehow reminds me of DeChirico's "Melancholy Mystery of a Street".

Agh that music... my ears...

To add another incarnation of the kids + magic writing implements theme, how about the Nick cartoon Chalkzone?

No story involving children and magic pencils ever ends well.

Maybe if she'd attended SCAD she could draw a proper lollipop instead of the Vortex of Doom.

I'm glad someone came up with the filmmakers!

Reminds me of David Lynch.

When in doubt about what to create, create an spooky vibe and give it a mysterious ending. People usually give it a passing grade.

Awww, I didn't want to know who did it. I felt like I'd just walked into Gibson's Pattern Recognition, and would eagerly await the next bit of video.

Actually, it's the Savannah College of Art and Design.

That's where the "SCAD" in ScadShorts came from.

I went to school with these guys. The bloke that did the VSFX did the VSFX for my senior film.

Good goin', dwarves :)

Man!

That was like "Amigo & Me" on acid - and without Amigo.

At least it wasn't a Mirado Black Warrior. That film would've been a lot more... violent.

That music sounded like Brian Eno's "Variations on Torgo's Theme"

ahhhh, SCAD. I lived in Savannah for two (fateful) years. It was curious being a fly on the wall in the SCAD universe.

I one hand, I am hoping that "The Doctor and the Pencil" is just a joke, and on the other hand it would be funnier if it wasn't.

that's the unquestionable message of this little jewel of a film. The filthy, leering phallic pencil seducing the innocent child. Look where it gets her. Disgusting. Lot's of subtext too, note the "Soft" part of the pencil label always in shot; clearly portending the hollow ashes of her frustrated desire when the evil seducer finally lets her down - unfulfilled. No lead in that evil pencil. I could go on and on.... shall I?

my Muse is unleashed... the wedding cake motif; clearly a symbol of the overbearing social patriarchy that crushes the aspiring souls of young women with the false promise of judeo-christo-islamic traditional marriage enslavement using the normal primate hoarding reflex of gathering high sucrose food supplies, wrapped in a media conspiracy confection of wedding frocks and pink icing, dotted with barbie dolls and bad fifties home-maker magazines... the kite of her natural soul and desire cast down and then released while her grip is occupied by the evil HB, only to be consumed by the monstrous Schultzian tree. And then on to the vile addictive drug metaphor of the Lollita lollipop which of course results in the inevitable pencil-created black hole of the chronosynclastic infundibulum, sucking her into oblivion.....

No, I got it! The little girl is England, circa 1997. The Pencil is Tony Blair.
