Man trains rat to sit on cat to sit on dog

Empty Gesture says: "CNN Story of guy that walks around with a rat on top of a cat on top of a dog. The guy is pretty funny and goofy, takes in donations, but in general does it to show that people should be able to get along if a dog, cat, and rat are able to." Link

What happened to news channels having actual news?
Then again, I remember when the Discovery channel had awesome shows about, well, discoveries - not docudramas about some beefy motorcycle dudes.
Le sigh. We'll always have NOVA.
I have no idea what you're talking about...
The guy gets around. I've seen him in Bisbee, Arizona, where he had three mice instead of the rat. And either I ran into him again in Santa Fe, or he's got a rival in the animal whisperer trade.
I passed the dog, cat, rat combo last week in S.B.
at the Tuesday farmers market.
The guy was away and they were still just sitting there holding down the fort (donation can). I didn't notice that the cat is attached to the dog by a collar and leash then. Still. It is a pretty amazing sight to stumble upon.
I'm a student at UCSB (right up the road), so I see a lot of this guy. While I would appreciate it if CNN didn't have to resort to fluff bits, it is nice that such a character is getting some recognition.
I live in Santa Barbara and this guy is hilarious. The city should pay him for how much he entertains tourists. He has a lot of pride in what he has accomplished haha.
interesting, in Japan today the proof of cold fusion:
hera a mouse over a cat over a dog.
Latente,
That link was to a Google translation of an Italian article that has nothing to do with this post. Feel free to Suggest A Link about cold fusion.
pretty sure this guy either trained these pets in Boulder, CO, or he has a strikingly similar imitator. what flattery~
Another SB dweller here...when I saw him on State Street last summer, he was in the process of being shouted at by a deranged, highly aggressive homeless man for no reason whatsoever.
Gee, now if all humans were as well fed...
I met him in Santa Fe on Fathers Day last year. He was pretty cool. The dog, cat, and rat were rather mellow..the police eventually asked him to move on after too big of a crowd gathered, which was a shame because my 3 year old daughter was trippin out on it pretty good.
I've seen this guy in Bisbee, AZ a couple of times too.
Youtube link in case anyone else is annoyed that cnn doesn't work with flash block

Unless there are two guys who've managed this particular menagerie-a-trois, I saw him in NYC a few years ago; to my dismay I didn't manage to get a decent picture (too stunned). Should've known it would show up on BB sooner or later...
I really admire this guy's message. it is clear and eloquently illustrated as well as spoken.
*especially if* he is just a drunken ol' hobo.
When I was growing up we had an orange cat that sat and slept on top of our dog, a Keeshond. I took a picture of it long ago but who knews where it went. No traning involved, the cat just got up there and the dog didn't mind. They probably kept each other warm while doing this outside.
@PHILLAMB: Ha, a news channel showing actual news! That would be the day when dogs, cats and mice live together! Oh wait..
Okay, I get it. He's basically saying that though subservience to a white man—who is taking all the money—all races can learn to be on each others back.
FYI, contrary to popular belief, cats are not always the aggressors towards rats - my rats used to attack the cat before she even had a chance to realize what they were.
It may be one thing to see a dog, cat and rat getting along, it's another to see a cat who is deathly afraid of rats.
He's going to move quickly up the rungs of the Society for Putting Things on Top of Other Things.
Saw this guy and his pets in NYC a couple of years back in Bryant Park.
I wonder how many pet rodents became kitty chow as a result this act--I kinda feel like there should be a sign around the dog's neck that says, "Don't try this at home."
And Jack makes a good point.
But rodent safety concerns and problematic analogies aside, it still makes me smile. : )
Aaah! I grow wary of a conspiracy!
Speaking of stacked pets.
@thievedrelic: If nothing else the guy has been through Boulder. I've seen him there a couple times (read: I've seen the dog/cat/mouse a couple times)
This reminds me of the Buster Brown Show which used to have a cat which played the bass fiddle and a mouse which played the piano. That was amazing!
I met him walking down the street in Bisbee, Arizona a few years ago; it really is quite the incredible sight to see. I believe he also had some sort of bird on his shoulder that day.
Man, I raised an interspecies dog/cat couple a few animals ago. Weirdest thing ever. (I expected the bunny + any-animal-that-comes-near relations, but not the poodle + calico)
...now that I think about it, they might have liked a little ménage à trois with a rodent to spice up their love life.

Thank you for reminding me why i started reading BoingBoing all those years ago. Directory of wonderful things... mmm.
#31 MINAMISAN: Well said. It'd be lovely if it swung a bit farther back in the direction of Mark/Xeni. A lot of days, I feel like I'm here by habit alone as I wade through posts and the day's crop of copyright rants.
I'm just amazed at the (d)evolution from "doggie style" to, for lack of a better term, "cattie style." The end is nigh.
The dog seems to have a 'god-my-life-sucks-but-what're-ya'-gonna-do' air. The cat doesn't seem very happy either. As for the rat? Who knows, but I'd guess scared shitless.
If he can do this with an elephant, a monkey, a rabbit and a bird, I'll be really impressed.

Get the rat to balance a piece of cheese on it's back without eating it and then I'll be impressed!
I saw this guy in Tucson years ago. In fact, we hired to appear in a show we did in town where we'd have bizarre opening acts. I never realized how much he gets around the country.
I wrote briefly about my encounter with him on my blog.
Hmm... so much for trying to embed a subtle link to my blog.
Anyway, if anyone's interested (there's also a picture I took of the dog, cat, rat act) it's here:
