Nude photos on Paris Metro alarm authorities

subway-metro.jpg Welcome to Wally World says: "The free newspaper Metro (Tuesday 20 May) reports that Paris Metro authorities (RATP) are conducting an inquiry to find out how photographer Jam Abelanet was able to take these arty shots of nekked babes posed in the Metro (for his book, Fantaisies Souterraines - Underground Fantasies). They're worried that people might try to copycat the positions." Link (NSFW)

I'm impressed by the fellow on the left's inattention.

How do you get shots of naked babes on the metro? Well, first you get some naked babes. Then get on a metro car with a camera. All done!

If Paris can't handle this, we're doomed. It's Paris. Paris, France.

Photoshop.

You're looking for PIXELS when there is a naked chick contorting in these images?

What does this "inquiry" entail? I hope they've already tried the simplest path, which is asking the artist directly.

The window shot (used here in BB), and some of the other crowd shots, definitely look like pasteup -- though they could be a good set or backdrop. Some of the others could be the classic "flash(er) photography" shtick -- understand traffic patterns in the area, have helpers to provide warning if someone does come along, and have clothing which can be rapidly dropped and re-assumed and which doesn't look excessively suspicious.

Note that Abelanet does have a history of playing with photo montage -- I like his handling of the zipper concept -- and "impossible" poses which may be more of the same.

Don't confuse truth and art.

The place in France where the women don't wear pants is the subway?

I disagree with the Photoshop claims (even as I suspect they are simply pro forma) — in many of the shots in the gallery, the models are interacting more directly with the passersby. (In one, a young man is "asleep" on the model's shoulder, for instance. In others, the models are attracting more attention.) Digital manipulation is always possible, but it would be simpler and cheaper just to put the naked person on the train or in the tunnels and take the shot, particularly in a country with a weaker nudity taboo than the US.

FWIW, the artist "says he took all of them, except one, in situ."

Authorities should also conduct an inquiry to find out how the photographer came to be named after a fruit-based spread for toast.

Camera on pod for the first shot (with people)
Then taking a second shot later, eg. at the end of the subway line (nobody's left in the train ..)

Since the camera stills at exactly the same position.. : shot 1 + shot 2 on photoshop

Voila !

(yes i am a french dude)

As a photographer you have to be able to visualize what the shot is going to be. Clicking is 1% of photography the other 99% is setting up. I have done it many times where I set up the cameras settings and angles and simply run with the camera to the location, click and leave (because of a law constraint or a time constraint such as being hit by an approaching car).
I can see him setting up his camera exactly as he wants at one stop having a girl run in at the next stop, hold a pose "click" and have her run out again. Notice the train is at stops...

No, I'd say it is just Parisians.

To kick up a fuss about this would appear uncool.

They can be terrible gits from time to time, but they do like to be cool.

I find it tasteful and exotic.

Neverless, it is interesting how the Metro police are baffled by this.

I wish the paypal showed United states, I want one. Anyone know of a way to buy the book here in the states?

That is all assuming that the "passengers" aren't just extras.

Not so difficult or controversial if the couple of shots that include other people, were shot after hours and 100% staged.

I like them though. It's really interesting to see a beautiful naked human in some of the very urban scenes. Like where she's at the top of the stairs, or lying/showering amidst the graffiti strewn walls. Nice.

I talked to the artist, and the book is available directly from his publisher here: http://www.editions-ragage.com/

Also, for the internationals, Amazon.fr has it as well, though it looks like it'll be a bit of a wait (1-2 weeks before shipping).

I'm really impressed with the photography, and I love the juxtaposition of soft bodies against the functional backdrop of the Metro. (Ditto what #18 said, basically!)

Bandango, I doubt we're going to see a lot of occasions when it's appropriate to link to something like that; but if in future you do that again, please remember that a small unobtrusive "nsfw" is inadequate for the occasion.
