I'm going to go ahead an assume that Cory is now pulling a fast one on us. Well played, good sir.
I think someone here is experiencing a rectal cranial inversion.
It's my birthday and I'll post if I want to...
:-)
@#11, You know the entire book is available as a free DRM-free download, right?
@#12, Yeah, I was just thinking that the only annoying thing for me has been the repetition of the book cover. A page turner could add variety to the posts.
Cory has remained mysteriously silent on this cram it down our throats issue. He is usually easier to engage. Publishing contract requirements at play here?
I haven't been silent at all. I will be posting at least one, often two or more posts about Little Brother, every single day, for at least two months, and if you don't like it read something else. I've said it before and I'm happy to say it as often as you'd like (time permitting, given the book tour schedule).
If you don't like reading websites in which the editors talk about their projects and appearances, then you don't like reading Boing Boing. I'd hate to see you reading a site you don't like -- what a waste of your time -- so you should probably take yourself elsewhere.
Can't get more straightforward than that, can I?
If only there were some highly-decentralized information medium that allowed anyone to post almost anything they wanted, resulting in a vast array of universally-accessible content which others could choose to read or not read as they preferred.
I'm having lunch with Al Gore this Friday... maybe I'll put a bug in his ear.
As I stated in another comment thread, I am annoyed by the constant LB posts, and would rather see them show up on craphound. On the other hand, I love Cory's contributions to BB and in the discussion of rights/DRM/government/etc.--not to mention he's a fine author. Now that I've seen Cory's very straightforward word on the matter, I'll grit my teeth and resolve to skip past the posts in my RSS reader.
For those who have encouraged annoyed readers to do likewise, that's fine, but please keep in mind that we're all pretty overwhelmed by the volume of information out there, even with the use of RSS readers, and if a sizeable part of the readership states that a certain type of post is too frequent, it may simply be damaging to the site to continue that practice--whether or not you think it should be that way.
But #18 certainly does not speak for me. I'd like to see less LB, but I'd even more like to see BB's community members treat each other with respect. (IMO, the value of using the word "please" is more than offset by the use of "whoring".) cfpresley's post is the last thing this whole "controversy" needs.

Can someone create one to filter out any of Cory's Little Brother posts?
ROFLOL!! What? Is a little javascript beyond you? There is also a greasemonkey script to filter out obnoxious commentors. hmmmmmm.....

I'll grit my teeth and resolve to skip past the posts in my RSS reader.
Your tremendous sacrifice is duly noted.
please keep in mind that we're all pretty overwhelmed by the volume of information out there
Hint, skip past posts you are not likely to enjoy. But if what you really, secretly want is to whine, bitch and moan about something you could have easily avoided by... I don't know, not clicking on the link in order to comment in the first place. Well then, it looks like you got exactly what you wished for.
I'd even more like to see BB's community members treat each other with respect.
And I'd like a pony. This being the internet I think we'll both be disappointed.
@#23:
You are the rude one, bub.
Re-read your post and you will see where we are coming from.
Or you won't and you won't.
I think someone should come up with some clever photoshop of the LB cover. That shoe for example just asks for a big wad of sticky gum to be stringing off the bottom.
Noen,
While you were busy being so funny, I think you missed my point. It was that it may actually be bad for the site, both in terms of turning off readers and possibly reducing the actual value of the site. Of course lots of people are bitching rudely, but lots of people seem to be repeating the "if you don't like it get out of my part of the Internet" mantra. I'm sure that's not really helping BB either.
And I commented, not because "I secretly want to whine bitch and moan", but because I've been skipping past all these posts, found it annoying to have so much repetition, and felt I had a little something to say about it.
I give you "Little Blogger"...

Ah - Little Blogger now with "sticky meme" addition!
ACK! Now with Cory's name spelled right...
Und der springt über den Haifisch in drei, zwei...
I never knew that when you jump the shark you land on the New York Times Bestseller List. I'm certain that Cory will take all these comments in the spirit in which they were offered and accord them the value that they deserve.
Oh great and powerful Flying Spaghetti Monster, hear my prayer!
Arrangeth my world so that I see not, and hear not, all that doth not interest me. Suffer not those I do not like to speak me to me, and make suffer those I do like when he speaks of that which I do not like!
When I go to my neighbor’s house, banish all from my sight that does displease me! Let my thought, my entertainment, and my pleasure rule over my neighbor’s house, as well as mine own. Let my grandiosity and entitlement swell and bursteth out into all of the land, swampething the quiet of my neighbors, and let my words be stinging, envious gnats biting their peace.
Hear me, oh great Flying Spaghetti Monster, and answer my prayer!
I may be some kind of masochist, but I read every LB thread simply to follow the piss-and-moanfest. I can't be the only rubbernecker in the crowd, surely?
Who says Cory's only out to promote himself? If that were the case, he wouldn't have posted that terrific piece on YA fiction a few weeks back. As a result, my just-purchased copy of LB is at about #6 on my "to read soon" stack, waiting its turn under several delicious library books that must be devoured before they're due.

While you were busy being so funny,
Aw shucks, thanks.
I think you missed my point.
No, I got your point, which is that promoting Cory's bestselling YA sf novel is bad for the site. I think that's dumb. Oh, there is some cognitive dissonance in your second paragraph. Can you find it?
byanyothername, I still see the post you thought Cory had deleted (#14, right?).
Noen:
"Oh, there is some cognitive dissonance in your second paragraph. Can you find it?"
No, there's not--unless you take my comments in exactly the way you're apparently predisposed to do. But that's fine, if you want to do so. I've said all I really wanted to say, and don't plan to rejoin the snarky bitchfest unless there's a better reason than measuring penises with you.
Zippy: It is moderately entertaining, in that "funny train wreck" sense.
@#41 Cory:
Nicely put. Now - Cry "Superfluous!" and let slip the Happy Muttants of Winnowing!!!
Darn, where'd Cory's response go? (a) I genuinely wanted to respond. (b) Today was going to be the day I told my grandkids about, when Cory Doctorow took issue with something I said.
Testing, to see if this one has been disabled yet.
Hello, this is one of Teresa's assistant moderators speaking. I've turned off comments on these two threads ("Little Brother tonight in Seattle's Third Place Books" and "Little Brother at NYC's Books of Wonder, May 25, 5-7PM") for a bit. Teresa tells me she's shutting down some other Little Brother threads as well.
You may notice that a bunch of comments have disappeared. They haven't actually been deleted, they've been unpublished. The comments are still there in BoingBoing's database, they just aren't showing up. This gives Teresa a chance to go through and re-publish them if she decides I've been too zealous.
I've deleted complaints about the Little Brother entries, even polite ones, and the joking ironic ones, because they just encourage more rude complaints.
It's possible that I've missed a few, since I just learned how to use the administration interface yesterday. And it's a little clunky.
One of Cory's comments was also unpublished, at his own request.
It's Teresa's decision when to reactivate comments for these threads.
