Signing Little Brother this afternoon at Elliott Bay Book Company, Seattle

Update: Please check the details below carefully -- I idiotically put the wrong headline on this one, saying I was at the library -- that's TOMORROW!

Tonight, I kick off the Seattle leg of my book tour for my new young adult novel, Little Brother, with an appearance at the Elliott Bay Book Company. I've got a jam-packed schedule here, including appearances at the Seattle Public Library on Sunday, All For Kids Books and More on Monday and Third Place Books on Tuesday. Hope to see you!

I signed up for an account just to beg you to come to Phoenix. It's not San Francisco by a long shot, but we love you out here in the godforsaken desert.

So darn close yet so far away. I'm in Victoria, BC and ferry fare to Seattle is simply an overkill.

Didn't know you were going to be in the neighborhood, Cory. Good luck on the signings, hope you get a large turnout at each, and hope you and your other fans have a great experience.

Take care!
Tom

@4: Kinda hangin' out at the wrong blog-site then, don't cha think? Just my $0.02

Go Corey! Seattle is my home town and Elliott Bay Books is simply the best place to buy books in Seattle.

@2 - "I think i have heard enough about this book by now"

But I guess you haven't heard enough of how sick most others are of these kinds of comments.

Cupcake Faerie, I thought Amazon.com was the best place to buy books in Seattle... ;)

Doctorow! I would have thought Ann Arbor would be a great place for you to stop on by. Home of the original Boarders Books, which was cool at the time. I could beg, but only if asked, and it wouldn't be pretty. Seriously, it would be so cool. I mean the place seems right up your alley. Yes, I went to U of M, but that's not why I'm pushing Ann Arbor. Please(echo effect for 10 seconds). They have to be eating your book up in A2! First dibbs for beers at the Full Moon and Pizza at Cottage Inn. Because I asked first! C.D., I'm so into your new book. I respect your ability so much it kinda hurts. The nephew is just going to be thrilled when he get's his copy. Can you imagine being 10 and getting a signed copy of a book? So cool. Thanks you very much.

Good to here you are in Seattle. I will make it one of the readings, Hopefully with a few other Students for Free Culture members.

Great book my wife, who works for ACLU, was handing out photo copies of it a few weeks ago, it went over well with our friends.

What is it that you against Portland, Or? We have Powell's City of Book's yet you are skipping us!

Now if only you crossed the pond and visited Vienna again. That would be cool, especially as I missed it the last time you were here...

Ross,

I'm not sure if that exempts you from taking a shot or means that you have to do a double. There's also a motion to do double shots for infractions by first-time commenters. This drinking game is getting complicated. And expensive.

relax, in keeping with my spiritual nature I have decided to take on all the sins of the world. Henceforth all shots required will be consumed by me. It is an natural extension of my Yen Buddhist faith.

The tour stops were picked out with some science by Tor Teens, based on the places where bestselling YA fiction becomes a hit first -- IOW, the places that seem to be centers for diffusing enthusiasm about kids' books. If it were up to me, there'd be twenty more cities on this tour (though it'd probably kill me!), but this is all about spending Tor's money as intelligently as possible.

@15 & 16: So if someone lurks long enough to see a bunch of CD's LB posts, then creates an account just to complain about one that would be a double penalty? That sounds reasonable to me. On the other hand, anything that permits me to drink twice as much sounds downright desirable.
I second Ann Arbor as a future book tour stop. If there's a bookier town in MI I don't know what it is.
I'm about halfway through the electronic edition & I ordered a hard copy for my nephew's high school in Warren. Those kids need it.

#4: Does that mean you'll stop posting now?

Not sure why it bothers you that he is talking about the book he wrote on his website.

Jealous?

It's understandable, I just felt like being juvenile and pitching a fit about you not coming to Portland. With gas prices being what they are the drive to Seattle would be hard on the wallet. Maybe next tour.

I, for one, welcome more gushy fan fits.

Powell's is great. I haven't been to Elliott Bay Books in ages, but I remember it fondly.

There's heavy sales & marketing & promotion juju/tech in the selection of stops on this tour. Cory's giving you the inside skinny: the stops are places that pack a major punch in the teenage/upper YA market. Adults who want this book will be able to find it, but if you want to get books into the hands of teenagers, you have to put them where the teenagers will find them.

Takuan, I don't want you to die for all our sins, though it would be interesting to have a religion where one takes a bottoms-up chug instead of crossing oneself.

Maybe we should have a Boing Boing Bingo card instead of a drinking game? It would have more slots for characteristic follies, and we wouldn't kill as many brain cells.

It hasn't hit the top of my reading queue yet, but from everything I've read about it Little Brother could easily be marketed as adult SF as well. Maybe there are plans to eventually do just that . . . but it bums me that there won't be a Powell's or Reading Frenzy appearance.

Oh, I think for his clever wordplay it should be a double. The rules are already complicated enough, let's just make the standard a double.

Hmph. Apparently my posts have been going up without vowels. Is this some sort of weird n00b hazing ritual?

does a pitcher of Sangria count as a shot?

Take a look at this

Delicious idiot - it's Boing Boing's oh-so-amusing form of censorship. Comments that are not welcome are disemvowelled. If this one makes it up, the vowels may well disappear. It is meant to represent a middle way between total take-down and readers having to skip posts they think contain no value. You are, of course, free to say "sky? Mmm, wtf?" but there has yet to be a post that succinctly circumvents this rule and at the same time manages to amuse, inform or provoke.

Having read (damn, always read before posting) the wikipedia entry referred to above, "sky" might suffer the indignity of a Y-ectomy.

Doubles. That was a CATFOTFIC as inaugural post.

This short essay by Xeni explains the history of BB comments and the decisions to moderate and disemvowell:
