The Fugs documentary

Fugggs Jess Hemerly found this fun Swedish TV special from 1968 about proto-punk group The Fugs. The interview segments at the beginning where they are asked to show their personalities in 30 seconds or less are a laugh-riot. The scene pictured here features Ed Sanders poetically commenting on his penchant for "astral perversion."

"Proto-punk"? That's not how I would describe them. Subversive definitely, usually hilarious, and always a lot of fun. And very, very obscene.

You didn't. I did.

I saw The Holy Modal Rounders at a bar in Vermont a long time ago. I bought their album and I still have it. 'New Amphetemine Shriek' is my favorite.

Yes, I was actually aware that it was you who had described them that way. I was differing in my opinion.

Apologies.

@KIBBLE (#4), I know. I was just teasing you back. No apologies necessary!

Fugs are so great Ed Sanders and the film directors
daughter Helan Clark used to live in my apartment in NYC.
Sanders also wrote a book on Charles Manson.
I still have there first recordings on ESP records
and yes I heard them play in the old East Village
before they became the fugs I think they called themselves "Adrian and the hate-treds" who can
forget the song"Slum Goddess from the lower Eastside".
Well that was all in 1965 way before the Gucci shoes
took over the area.
Nice to see the old video link.
