Poor word choice on recruitment sign

Do any Boing Boing readers from Nashville know if this sign is real or a Photoshop job? (via For Your Entertainment)

How can you put a political slant on that sign? I mean, come on, man

I'm going with Not-in-Nashville.

I used Google street view to check out the Shell gas stations closest to the Tennesse National Guard station on Armory Drive (which doesn't dead end anywhere) and there were none that also had a Jack-in-the-Box sign attached, nor were there any corners that looked like there was a little liquor store or grocery store across the street.

It must be a very dark, paranoid little universe inside your mind, #1.

As a Nashvillian I can sorta vouch for the authenticity of that sign. I haven't given it close scrutiny, but I can tell you that it exists, the Guard office is indeed on Armory, which ends at a dead end. You'll forgive me if I don't pop over and look immediately.

That's LOL funny, in a darkly comic sort of way.

I bet it's real, and the TNG probably really is that thoughtless. In other words, their PAO is probably not very media savvy. D'oh!

I'll second that, #1.

I agree with #3. The 615 area code extends to Murfreesboro and I find this address there:

National Guard
2350 Armory Dr
Murfreesboro, TN 37129
(615) 898-8070

So if the sign is real, it's probably there. Unfortunately Google Street View doesn't cover Murfreesboro.

Jeez, I almost thought MSN trumped Google on something..

Way to completely miss the point, #1 and #4. Nobody's making any comments about the "company" of soldiers. The point is supposed to be that where troops are currently being sent is a dead end. Unless I'm actually missing the point.

Still, #1 and #4 seem to be more paranoid, or at least overly defensive, than those they are attempting to rail against.

Err, make that #1 and #7. Sorry #4!

Yeah, I guess it is a poor choice of words at that. Nobody's going to sign up if the recruiters actually tell the truth for a change.

#1 - So, I guess your opinion on the life of a soldier varies from John Kerry? And what kind of uninformed descsion are we expected to make based upon your comment? Your un-expressed opinion is right?

I am inclined to accept John Kerry's opinion on the life of a soldier over some random internet poster.

Also, I will guess that you are either under 18 or over 42. Otherwise, as I am sure you know, you are most welcome to join the company of our soldiers. So don't just say it. Do it.

Forget the sign for a second -- how cool is it that Mark can post a sign from who-cares-where and ask if anyone knows if it is real, and two or three people who work/live near the place actually read it and respond? SUPER cool, I say!

I spent too many years in the goddamned company of goddamned soldiers; dumbest bunch of goddamned bastards I ever knew ... except for college.

I'm not satisfied until the military is at least this flaming. Deploy the gay bomb!

Shouldn't they be developing the gay bomb in case someone else gets it first? What about the gay bomb gap!?

By insulted do you mean curiously aroused?
