HOWTO turn a plastic dollhouse into a faerie house

This simple WikiHow explains how to convert a crappy, mass-produced pink dollhouse into a faerie house:

Collect materials for your home. They must be dry or the glue won't stick to them. For lap siding, you can use cat tail leaves. You can also make a stone cottage, or cover it with birch bark. Norway Pines have wonderful bark for shingles on the roof. Use old slips, fabric and lace for curtains. Layer them for a good effect. To detail the house, you might find some great shapes in potpourri, or from dried flowers from the garden. You can even make an entire faerie house with food!

seen a few like that (real houses)
Slightly Important Note: Catalpa seeds have some toxicity. Of course you have raised your children to not eat everything slower than themselves.(wish I had that luxury) However, their playmate's parents might not have. Consider materials used, especially if they mimic usual foodstuffs in shape or color.

Or you could just give your children to me....

You could add some dried mushrooms for an accent. Or eat the 'shrooms and live inside the doll house. You could also get teeny tiny dolls and lop off their arms and legs and use them for coat racks inside. Then put the doll house under your full size doll arms and legs coat rack and place a doll's head lampshade next to them all for the trifecta. Win!100101!!

The pods labeled as Catalpa are probably Locust. Locust pods are flat and Catalpa pods are round like very thin cigars.
I have no idea of the toxicity of Locust pods.

Perhaps you don^t believe it but you can build a real house with recycled products like carpet of plastic bottles or wall insulation of Denim Jeans. And it looks great! I'm writing in my blog about all possibilities you can build or renovate your house eco-friendly.

I try it again with my comment ... You won't believe it but it's really possible to build a house of recylcled materials like carpet made of recycled plastic bottles or wall insulation made of recycled Denim Jeans.

Cory, Cory, Cory....
Your daughter is ONLY a few months old and you've already gone off the deep-end Daddy!
(Could be a BB companion site; Deep-End Daddy.)
What can we expect in the months to come?
How to build a play house from macaroni and glitter?
Bicycle construction utilizing used mother boards?
And in a few years, creating chastity belts from discarded CD cases?
I look forward to it all!

I remember making fairy houses out of twigs and bits o' nature when I was younger and then I remember getting yelled at for stripping the bark off the birch trees. So I'm hoping people won't go about stripping away bark and moss willy nilly. Generally, if it's not attached to a plant anymore, it's fair game, otherwise, leave it alone.

ROSSINDETROIT, You are right, they look like Locust seed pods to me. Honey Locust pods are apparently edible while the Black Locust ones are toxic. They look very similar.

That's fantastic! I'm with Antinous. I'd love to see this blown up to life size.

Pretty! I tried this once, hoping to attract some faeries. Not a single one moved in. Instead, all I got was a nasty Smurf infestation...

Ug-Lee.

Hardly better than a bright pink dollhouse. Why not wait until your daughter is 5 or so, and build the whole thing together? It'll be much less sturdy than this thing, much less "pretty" (oh god, how ugly) and way better in every conceivable way.

I've made little fairy houses, and little fairy trans-dimensional portals, and it's never amounted to much more than trouble. Do you know that a rowdy bunch of Tuatha de Danna can party all night long and leave a huge mess to clean up in the morning? My advice, do not invite them in unless you know how to deal with them. Don't even get me started on what they do to the wild life for fun!

Definitely for adult consumption, unless you're proposing a new line of Chokables Brand® doll house.
I would hate for the little one to get tendrils all lodged in the throat.

:) this concept is so charming;recycled,low-to-no-cost,and faery friendly to boot.
must say i'm surprised at all the concern about children consuming this particular piece of faerie real estate.clearly, toxic plant materials=bad toy materials, but i doubt a child old enough to want a dollhouse like this would still be at the "mouthing" stage.

Seriously, dude, go to their place. There's a portal on Glastonbury Tor.

Antinous, the problem with going to their place, is that they want something in return. There's no such thing as a free cocktail party where fairies are concerned. Last time it happened I woke up with rope burns and...ah, never mind. What happens in the Underworld stays in the Underworld.

I'd love to see more links to fairy houses, both big and small. Anyone know any good sites?
