Prada animation by James Jean and CocoRosie

Cocojeann
Wonderful pop surrealist and comix artist James Jean, who designed prints for Prada's Spring line, also created a stunning animation for the company. Prada held a contest for anyone to submit music for the animation, titled "Trembled Blossoms." The contest winners aren't online yet but the version by CocoRosie is posted and it's absolutely exquisite. Link

David, very cool. I was really moved by this piece. I now have the urge to go by a Prada purse. Dear God, I've been manipulated!

It is a great piece of animation. The "uncanny valley" gets crossed several times. Perhaps we'll become accustomed to synthetic representations and they will cease, for some, to be weird.

Thanks, I'm going to email this link to a few people.

Amazing, though I think the Prada purse part was a little jarring. Gotta please those who hold the purse-strings, I guess

And thats what you call a "private utopia."

Highly stylized fashion bodies at the origin? Yikes. Prada's founding myth is scary.

Bjork's "All is Full of Love" video is far more human -- even though it is about robots.

You know, when I first saw this I wasn't sure what to make of it, from the naked pre-pubesent (implied at least) girl, the "jarring" prada placement, the vicious super-model "catwalk" walk. And did the devil guy turn a fish into fashion at the end?

I agreed with what a lot of the posters said on the designers blog at the time, while the designs are beautiful, some of the animation and implimentation leaves a lot to be desired.

C++ Must try harder :)

Watching this I got the impression the animator was punching a little above his weight. Like #2 says, the video's distractingly caught in the uncanny valley. Absolutely *love* CocoRosie though, and I'm a bit of a hoarder, so the link and the option to download were totally appreciated.
