mmk_kobayashi's funny photostream

200804281356.jpg After Mister Jalopy posted a link to mmk_kobayashi's "tasteless, frequently mean, sporadically NSFW, sometimes jaw dropping and generally hilarious" Flickr photostream my productivity ground to a halt. Link

The "meat house" photo (#10) comes from this article on Something Awful:

The person who built it also made a meat ship:

Well, there goes an hour of productivity sacrificed to laughing my ass off.

As Derek has already pointed out, he as appropriated these images from all over the internet and has not given any credit as to the source. Worse yet, it looks like he's pixellated out any addresses that would have given an indication as to their copyright owners. He's also set his account to claim All Rights Reserved on all of the images.

While the images are entertaining, I'm pretty annoyed at his flagrant need to hide where he found them.

Well, it's a grab bag from all over the place, but I like his taste. Really, really funny pictures.

Pfft, I bet he even got his name off the bottom of a teacup.

could these possibly all be collected from 2chan?

Round about page 192 my mind hit overload.

I'm with Phil Hilliker. There's no shortage of wacky image collections on the net. But most, if not all the photos in the Flickr link were taken by someone else. How hard would it have been to credit the photographer or give the source? The photostream would still be funny, but if someone saw a picture they wanted to pay to use (it happens) or the work of a photographer they wanted to hire, they'd be able to find that person. The 'All Rights Reserved' tag is just added insult.

Take a look at this

I'm sure the All Rights Reserved bit is for his own protection, basically saying he doesn't have the rights so he can't let you use them.

Take a look at this

Agent 86, I hadn't considered that. I still think s/he should credit the source, but I can see how someone might try to use the ARR that way.

Yeah, I'd like to see Cory's take on this. Fair use...or just plain old stealing other people's funny and passing it off like your own? I didn't look at too many of them (I've seen a lot of the images before)...but if he did pixel out information about where they came from on some of the images that's a pretty dick move on his part.

BUT as 7 said, he probably just d/led them all from 2chan and didn't know any better...lord knows the English chan boards steal tons of crap from their Japanese ancestor.

Holy crap, I'll give you one attribution; I took this one myself:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/momo0214/2378875993/

It was about 10 years ago in my friend's apartment's pool, with a film camera. Didn't even know it was digitized and "out there".

What in hell is that?

Kenahoo, that is a really funny picture. But I'm curious to know how you feel about him posting it like that?

Boy do I feel silly. I thought the makers of Borat invented this fantastic piece of clothing, but apparently I was wrong:

Looks like Borat has some serious competition in the sexy department...

There are at least a few in there from a well known commercial supplier of high quality naked lady pictures. The "All rights reserved" disturbs me as well, seeming to imply that he has legal rights to distribute these, which clearly he does not.

I tend to associate Flickr with artists who post their own work, I suppose collections of gathered images is inevitable, but it does bug me, especially when friends of mine work hard to put their own (quite good) work up there. (A favorite group is 365days, where people take a self portrait every day for a year http://www.flickr.com/photos/cyan_del_ma/sets/72157601230285131/ )

Ok, back to browsing the funny pictures.

Should this all be on a blog on StumbleUpon?

Couldn't believe how mind-numbingly entertaining this stream was... unbelievable catch. I basically just got my Pandora radio stations going and scrolled through the whole thing at once, walking around occasionally to keep my legs from going to sleep.

Too cool.

Tenn - I don't remember what kind of candy bar, but we bought it specifically for that shot. We also brought some other props, like books to read underwater, etc.

kimbakke is quite possibly the unfunniest person out there. this guy's comments are almost ruining the fun for me. almost.

#20, you're right, Flickr discourages using it as a storage place for random photos yoinked from the web. I think it even says in their rules that if you have more of other people's pictures than your own, they'll shut your stream down. The attention this user is getting right now might well get him in trouble.

There's more than one type of NSFW,

Not Safe For Work (when it's perhaps offensive)

and

Not Safe For WORKING (when it's a time stealer).

(Actually everything about Boingboing is covered by the 2nd definition).

Yup. It's gone.

Oh well.

Wow. Now I feel terrible. That was an awful lot of work (collecting, uploading and labeling) to have disappear with the snap of the fingers.

Thanks for the laughs mmk_kobayashi... : )

But i decided to wait until i got home.

Anyone know what happened?

Someone ratted him out to Flickr. Flickr is owned by Yahoo. Yahoo is in league with repressive governments. He is being waterboarded.

Take a look at this

Thanks dudes ...

I only got to page 40 (of 200+) before you douches got him yanked. There has got to be a place on teh tinternetz for someone who makes that much effort to put that much funny all in one place. "Oh copyright, copyright! You people should all spend 200 years finding all those pictures yourselves in the tubez rather than enjoying them in one place! Bad, bad! And no, I never retell jokes I heard from other people or sing Happy Birthday ... they're copyrighted!"

No excuse but to work today. Productivity, here we come.

Take a look at this

I am SO relieved that they yanked that subversive material from Flickr.

Maybe we can scan his HD drive for downloaded MP3s and rat him out to the RIAA as well.

Five or so years from now when he is released from Guantanamo or some unnamed prison in China he will surely understand the error of his ways.

Not quite enough incentive for a DOS attack on Flickr, but the thought does make me smile.

I only made it to page 40 myself :(

boo for copyright fascism.

that was really funny while it lasted

I was wondering which FYI megaservice got that stream shut down... usually it's Fark or digg. That was an awesome collection that will definitely be missed.

Thanks for bringing ice to the jungle, boingboing...
