HOWTO make an all-in-one steampunk PC

Jake von Slatt sez, "The inexorable march of technology has rendered my 4:3 aspect ratio 19" LCD mod and my pump-less water cooled PC obsolete, so when I saw at 24" wide screen monitor on sale for $299.00 I grabbed it with the intent on making a Victorian All-in-One PC."

I connected the plastic top and bottom together with some lengths fo aluminum angle iron and then give them a coat of Krylon semi-flat black spray paint. When the paint was dry I masked off some of the trim using "FROG Tape" from Inspired Technologies - it works much better then regular painter's masking tape.

I hand painted the trim with a brush and small pot of gold paint which I then proceeded to spill into my lap. The Lady von Slatt has taken to calling me Goldmember.

Next I fabricated the back from perforated aluminum and pop-rivets.

That is rather impressive. Very well executed, I like the appearance of a stage, but the pointing device he is forbidden to speak of perplexes me.

Masterful work! Deatil and design to delight the eye and invite the hand. Dare I ask if a UPS with a coal fired burner and engine generator is in the offing?

I think the mouse is in the base of the sextant.
There are some ordinary Victorian style brass pushbuttons there.
The Remington keyboard is nice. I may use that if I can find a whole one at a yard sale...
And I could easily hide a pair of piezo speakers easily in that telegraph sounder's armature.

hmmmmmmm

...Never thought I'd ever live to see the day when someone would come up with a steampunk contraption I would actually *want* to own, much less use.

Q: How soon before someone gives Boing Boing a Steampunk-styled logo? :P

I agree #7 -- that's the first piece I've seen that works within the framework of the aesthetic and actually is interesting beyond. Not to mention, functional. Usually my mouse can't click fast enough past the words "steampunk" ...

"I felt that these needed to be brass as there is no such thing as too much of that noble alloy."

I always wonder if these steampunk-MAKERS actually believe this, or if they are simply having fun being caricatures of themselves. Either way, I'd hate them if they weren't so right. Bring on the brass!
