Public 'skine.art Moleskine blog
As regular BB readers know, I love peeking into the Moleskine notebooks of artists and other creative people. Part of my fascination comes from the fact that I'm a lousy notetaker and envy people who are masters of the form. Paul Saffo sent me a link to 'skine.art, a fantastic sketchbook blog open to anyone who would like to submit their work. Above left, "A view of downtown Houston from my hotel window" by Susan Rudat. Above right, untitled pages from Marcelo Braga's Moleskine. Link

I've always wanted to keep a cool notebook journal, but I've never been able to keep it up after a couple days (same with any blogs I've ever done).
My mom, who is an accomplished fiber artist and painter, makes the most incredible travel journals ever. They are part collage, part painting, part writing, and really evoke a sense of the place they refer too.
Amazing site. Thanks.
In kinda the same vein, check out Moresukine, part diary, part webcomic.

Fantastic!!
I just got myself my first Moleskine sketchbook recently. I love it.
Now I suddenly feel like I'm not putting it to good enough use...
I dig the Moleskins as well. A lesser-known version is the "accordian" book, an 8.5 foot long version of the small notebook...a single page folded up. I LOVE these things! Here's an online version of one I did last year:

Enjoy...

too many people are taking up moleskin - like a fad. I look forward to the day when people stop taking themselves to seriously - even in an ironic way - cos it's still not.
Yeah, moleskines have become trendy, but I use it as a tool. Like a camera, the small moleskine sketchbooks are great to tuck away, but always on hand.
#7 Actually, you come off as the one taking yourself too seriously. It's a sketch book, you draw in it.
If you like to sketch, you need somewhere to sketch. Artists are going to select nice-looking sketch books for the same reason folks select nice frames (for photography, paintings, or their eyeglasses), nice shoes, or a nice shade of paint for their living room.
To do otherwise is to end up looking like a homeless drunk on the street in all aspects of your life....and somehow I doubt that's you.
It's not just that they look nice. I've tried many types of sketchbooks before I found out about the moleskine, but now I doubt I'll ever want anything else. They are excellent for travel journals, even if you take it to the extreme. Here's a picture of my friend's travel journal- it's the fattest moleskine I've ever seen, but it still holds together.
Omi's Australian Journal
I've seen other companies make similar notebooks, and I bet there's nothing wrong with them, either. But I love my moleskine, and like Rudat this Rudat?) said above, it's a tool. A very good tool.
Ah, fudge it. I fail at html.
I kept reading about how great and durable and well-made these moleskine books are, so I finally bought one to keep in my back pocket and take notes on at work. Everything was great until all the pages separated from the spine after only a few months of use. Now I have a Blackberry. It has a calendar, and search, and breakout, and it's half the size.
Fuck you moleskine!
How's your Blackberry holding up in your back pocket?
Not even a scratch.
I have seen rudat's art on another site called deviantART; good stuff. We all use different mediums for sketches, final work. Moleskin, whatever works. I like color!
