yahhh... I know, but what are ya gonna do. It's a little undignified with all the flailing tentacles with the spermatophores - to say nothing of the dueling ovipositors (jab jab, stab poke!) but it wasn't my fault we crashed on this backwater. "Check the slood reservoirs" I said, but nooooo.......
This guy is a poster child for the new bottom-up system of innovation. He figured out some way to make existing tech better at a minimum of cost, put it out there for the mob to see and judge, and its merits were so undeniable that the industry had to follow him, not vice versa. And he comes off as very humble and level-headed. He has done and will do great things, and we're privileged to get to watch him while he does.
This is so cool that I just had to make one of these today when I saw the video. Check it out! http://flickr.com/photos/melancon/2406496036/
My ghetto IR pen is on the counter top.
Here is a closeup of myIR pen. http://flickr.com/photos/melancon/2405665891 I didn't have my soldering iron at work, but I did have some Cat5, an old remote, a sharpie, some electrical tape, and a AA battery. I almost felt like Macgyver building that thing. ;)
I've seen some of his videos already thanks to BoingBoing & Kotaku. I'm really excited about his tracking device for 3D video effects. If that is incorporated into mainstream gaming it's just the thing that could sell me a current generation console.
I'm in awe of this, but after looking through his project page, I'm most excited to discover his kinetic text engine. It looks absolutely amazing and I can't wait to see how it works. I get stuck in powerpoint hell often and it may be a great way to break out of that. At least it got me thinking, which is his point.
Hey everyone,
For all of you that are wonding how or why or where to get started I suggest going to either Johnny Lee's site http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/projects/wii/ or the forums that I run for Johnny http://www.wiimoteproject.com - there you will find how to make a IR Pen, what software you need, other OS support and many different Projects Ideas using this Technology.
I love this guy!
Johnny Lee is awesome!
Just; WOW! And awesome!
Whoa, this is pretty awesome. He looks like Horatio Sanz in the video thumbnail.
Makes me wanna Wii!
Go Johnny! Change the world with a $40 device. I love it.
I think... I think I want Johnny Lee to have my baby....
Can't believe it, the last I heard of him was 5 years ago with his camera stabilizer. Awesome to know he's a modding genius.
Hot brilliant chubby Asian men FTW. Takuan, please don't steal my boyfriend.
Oh,it's OK,I just require him for breeding purposes. He's all yours after the larvae eat their way out.
You're still producing larvae at your age?

At a certain age, I guess that one must simply be grateful that one's tentacles can still flail.
(don't tell anyone; human-horn and electro-stim)
Ya know, I love TED videos, but man, do I HATE that crescendo intro music. Hate it with a passion.
