Ring turns into a sphere

This replica of a 17th century gold armillary ring swings open to form a sphere; the original came from Diana Scarisbrick's Historic Rings. This one (which improves on the original) was made by LiveJournaller Acanthusleaf. Link (Thanks, Monique!)

Didn't Crichton's Dad give him something like that in Farscape?
It reminds me of the "Machine" from the highly under-rated movie of Carl Sagan's book "Contact", starring Jodie Foster.
I really, really, really, really, really, really want a set of these to use as wedding bands for my fiancée and I. Anybody know where to get a set?

She's going to make a few sets, in silver. Not the ideal metal for a wedding ring, but the cool factor sure makes up for it.
That's extremely cool.
Silver doesn't do well on me though.
Titanium would be cool.

I would like to buy one too. The prototype is made from brass (which can turn your finger green)and I don't think it would look nearly as nice in silver. I'll wait for it to be available in gold.
