We have a copy of this painting in the office where I work (I work for Disney). It's pretty much the first thing I see when I go to work every day. I must say, I never get tired of it. It a beautiful painting.
Most people dont know that the Disney Imagineers (including the painter of this marvelous work) actually occupied an office towards the top of the EPCOT sphere. My ex's dad worked there and used to tell me amazing stories..back in the day when Disney was about being creative and not about money (reminiscent to where Pixar is today)
#14 - My first reaction to seeing this was "I didn't know John Berkey did concepts for Disney". I guess he didn't. I, too, much prefer Berkey's work over this. He's one of my top 3 favorite artists.
I see it and think the colors are nice, but all I find myself doing is feeling the Florida heat in July! Like being steamed alive. If I hadn't gone there in July I woudn't have this response, I'm sure.
oh dear... I remember seeing this painting at Disney World when I was a kid, and they hadn't even begun to build Epcot. It all felt so futuristic at the time... dang, I feel old now :(
Miraculously, on the day this was first posted I was cleaning out my garage and found a box containing a thick, full-color brochure from 1982 announcing the opening of Epcot. I immediately thought of boingboing. I was shocked when I saw the headline "Incredible Epcot Concept Painting" the next morning and the associated picture that I had just been admiring the day before. The brochure was buried under a pile of old letters and memorobilia that I had held onto for almost 30 years and I found it a few hours before someone posted the picture of the painting online - amazing coincidence. I went out and bought a scanner so that I could share some additional images from the brochure with you guys. Here's the link to my Picasa web album:

BB Gadgets posted this yesterday. It's still the top post over there.
looks like a moonie utopia
I bet all the men in this painting wear Old Spice.
The couple in white suits look out of place to me.
The Logan's Run Indian Wedding aesthetic is magical. I want this artist to paint my apartment building and make me feel better about where I live.
Maxfield Parrishes first acid trip?
Why would the painter be hiding behind the bushes?
All painters should really die. Or make real art at least.
It's beautiful and unusual.
Song Kwai Li,
What happened to make you so filled with hate for the world? Your website makes me really hope that you don't have guns.
just bored me

Hmmm.. a bit too chaotic and haphazard for my taste. When it comes to loose brushwork and a rainbow color palette, I prefer John Berkey

It lifts the hair on the back of my neck, and not in a good way.
To each his own!
Now I'm going to have to find a Diebenkorn to wash the residue off of my retinas.
Very cool.
Leroy Neimanesque...
@RYANH (#2), Exactly. That's why I reference Boing Boing Gadgets in the post and then link to BBG for more information.

Later, the artist went to a lucrative and spiritually fullfiling career at Jehova Witness Watchtower magazine.

@marlborotestmonkey7... Exactly my thought.
I think it is very nice, a great painting for an office maybe...but I would never want it in my house. There is just to much going on for me.
