Survive-All Fallout Shelter radio ads

In response to the bulletproof "anti-terrorist" bed...

Over at Dinosaur Gardens, I just posted MP3s of a radio ad campaign for Survive-All Fallout Shelters:

"The international struggles of our world may lead to… (ka-boom) NUCLEAR HOLOCAUST!"

Nothing lends itself better to a fear-based advertising campaign than your family’s radioactive death. So when the Mort Kridel Advertising Agency was asked to create a radio ad campaign for Survive-All Fallout Shelters, they did their PR-darnedest to scare the Wonder Bread crap out of nuclear families everywhere. Tense horn stabs and canned explosions bracket sales pitches like:

Radioactive fallout, that deadly by-product of a nuclear attack, will kill literally millions of unprotected families in the event of an atomic attack. Is YOUR family protected? Do YOU have a fallout shelter?

Each Civil defense approved, basement-type, Do-It-Yourself fallout shelter includes: A complete fully-stocked first aid kit! Extra strength saran and rayon bunks! A radiation meter and individual dosimeters!

Civil defense approved, FHA approved, no money down, five years to pay!

Yes! Music to my ears. I have been searching for archival audio like this. This is absolute gold. How would I have found it without bb? Thank you! Oh...I do have audio of a propaganda radio series from the 50's but it is "staged radio" more like a morality play. This is wonderful, (like in directory of)

It's always so alien to hear or see things from those days.

Not to detract from the link, but if you want to see more stuff from the Cold War bomb culture days, www.conelrad.com is a good resource.

This is completely awesome, in a glad-I-didn't-grow-up-during-the-worst-of-it kind of way. It's pretty amazing how there was never a literal, collective pants-shitting in America.

The constant threat of global nuclear annihilation sort of makes the perceived threat of terrorism seem less severe by comparison. When did America turn into a bunch of 'fraidy cat wimps? Why does the notion of collapsing buildings and hijacked airliners terrify us more than the idea that civilization could be wiped out?

Ho ho. For anybody who's interested, some kind soul has posted the entirety of The Day After, split into many parts, on YouTube.

This sounds like it would make the basis for a great radio ad for Fallout 3!

Then again, those that will stay away for it being "Not Black Isle Studios" or "Not Van Buren" will likely be overwhelmed by those that will buy buy buy because it is Fallout and/or Bethesda, so maybe it doesn't really need any advertising.
