Artist James Jean for Prada

Incredible pop surrealist painter James Jean, known also for his covers for comix series like Fables, Umbrella Academy, and others, worked with Prada to design fabrics for the fashion company's Spring line. Beautiful stuff, 'natch. Comics212 has more.

I don't know I'd ever wear any of the clothes, the patterns/cuts don't appeal to me. But the prints/fabric patterns and the faerie purses appeal greatly.

This is great, but it does irk me somewhat that, now that James Jean is becoming something of a sensation, he goes from being an illustrator to a 'pop surrealist painter'.

This is symptomatic of the low regard in which people hold illustration. I'm sure David didn't mean to imply any prejudice through his choice of words but why re-brand the artist as a 'pop surrealist' when illustrator will do just fine? That's what he is, after all...

Interesting choice for Prada. I'm willing to bet that frock sells for about $1,500. And if it shows up in the men's line, the shirt will be 300, if not more.
