I think it more Rube Goldberg-ian. Um, Goldberg-esque... ? Goldberg-ese... ?

And unless K.D. Lang travelled in time to the 1950s(60s?), I doubt that's a woman. Gender roles, pants, and hair are the give-aways.

Actually, that's Ralf Hutter of Kraftwerk. And they used that thing on their second album; it made one note, but it was a very influential one.

Also be sure to check out the mid-century science pool on flickr, it has tons of awesome vintage science, and I finally found the vintage periodic table I was looking for on there!
