Going For An English, classic Goodness Gracious Me sketch

"Going For an English" is a classic sketch from the British variety show "Goodness Gracious Me," in which an Indian family goes out "for an English" after drinking too much, patronizing the waiter and demanding the blandest thing on the menu. It's some goddamned funny stuff. Link (Thanks, Neil and Farah!)

In many ways, a counterpoint to Rowan Atkinson's 'Guys After The Game'

Yes it is a classic, although Goodness Gracious Me was a comedy sketch show, not a variety show. 'Variety' makes me think of comedy, tap dancing and singing live on stage - like the Royal Variety Show.

That was priceless.

That was priceless. "...and 24 plates of chips" was the clincher.

And I don't think it's so much a family as a bunch of mates who have been out on the piss all night.

OMFG, that is hilarious.

They forgot to say: "This isn't authentic English food, you know. Here they cook it fresh to suit the Indian palate. In a real English restuarant they only use frozen ingredients and a microwave."
