BitStrips: comics-creation for everone

BitStrips is a fast, easy, sharing-friendly comic creation site -- you make "characters" using a Wii-style menu, pose them and fill in dialog, layout your strips and monkey with the backgrounds, borrowing material from any of the thousands of strips that have been made to date. Once your strip is done, anyone can modify it -- it becomes part of the commons. In the first two weeks of the site's existence, more than 16,000 strips were created by the users of the service. Just an FYI, any strip you create on BitStrips puts you into a "joint ownership" agreement with the site: http://comixtalk.com/bite_strips

Hey Nathaniel, Jesse from Bitstrips here.

Just want to be clear about the joint ownership thing- it's in there so that no-one can claim ownership of the noses, ears, bananas and other cartoon bits that we make available to everybody.

We may find a better way of phrasing this in our TOU, but until then please rest assured that our users are welcome and encouraged to throw their Bitstrips on their blogs without us sharing in any ad revenue or making any claims on their creations.

Funny Times magazine also has an online page where amateurs can create cartoons by making selections from the body parts and expressions of various stock characters. The "Help" section explains the how-to.

(Funny Times is a monthly 50/50 mix of humorous essays (some political) and cartoons (ditto). It qualifies as a wonderful thing, IMO, even if you don't like its politics (progressive).)

@#4: "Simpson's did it."

Specifically, Homer uses a service to (incorrectly) make a personalized video for Lisa:

I'm so sorry. I'm not a troll, and I'm mostly nice. I'm full of irreverence though. Everyone deserves the occasional poke to the eye.

I include myself in there as well. Have at it !

Come try us out or take our tour...

Thanks!

http://www.stripcreator.com is a bit like that, maybe more primitive. I've been doing a strip there for a few years. http://www.stripcreator.com/comics/arbi .
It's not funny and it's not art, but it's art therapy. Something I started doing after reading the artists' way. It's just really easy to use.
