Lamb leg hurled during sports event

After a Northern Ireland soccer match between Ballymena United and Distillery on Saturday, someone threw a lamb's leg onto the field. According to the USPCA, the act "demonstrated general disregard for animal welfare." From the BBC News:
"It also follows a recent incident in which a horse's head was left outside the home of a hockey player in Cookstown," (the animal welfare organization's spokesman) added.

Is the USPCA aware that the lamb was dead at the time its leg was thrown? By that time I doubt it cared very much at all. Now if a live lamb had been attached to the leg that was thrown, then I suppose the USPCA would have had a point.

Did they throw some rosemary, a little oregano, the zest of one lemon and some kalamata olives too? Bastards!

In Spain some barcelona´s holligans throwed a pig head to Ronaldo (it didnt hit him).
I dont remember if it was raw or cooked but animal wellfare organizations didt complained at all.

This is perfectly normal behaviour. All human war/organized sports comes from primate tribal behaviour at the hunt. The rending and distribution of the prey is a time honoured tradition, witness the still practiced (if they'd let them) buskazzi of the Afghans wherein a carcass of a kid is fought for by opposed mounted sides.

I suppose for most of us the nearest we come is the annual faculty budget meeting.

I believe the only thing that you could hear over the malay was....

"Och, Me lunch!!!"

I think that to truly merit the description "a lamb's leg" rather than the more traditional "leg of lamb" there should still be skin and wool attached. This is tacky behavior, and kind of gross, but I don't see how it's any more an insult to "animal welfare" than throwing a package of bacon onto the field would have been.

Appropos of nothing...Leg of spring lamb is the traditional easter sunday dinner here... and is the finest food in the world bar none imho. Rosemary, garlic & olive oil. Nothing else. Goose fat roast spuds. Made it yesterday for myself & herself. Ate ourselves into a stupor.

a package of bacon

That's not a leg of lamb from the meat counter at the supermarket.

Barbaric... What an awful way to waste perfectly good meat.

Would it kill you to throw some steamed Asparagus?
(-and don't let me catch you overcooking it!)

They don't obey the food pyramid at these things and our kids are fatter for it.

Does anyone know the condition of the leg?

A cooked leg might have been a show of support or something they could have easily bought from a vendor, but if it was a bloody, raw leg recently removed from the lamb, that's a bit more unnerving.

Either way, it's some quality hooliganism.

Sounds like someone was trying to make him an offer he couldn't refuse.
