If they keep this up, just imagine what the resulting post-apocalyptic future's archaeologists will think...

Centuries of research later, finding out that they weren't THAT advanced, they just had a thing for mecha. Seriously embarrassing.

There's a statue a lot like this placed on a public street in Rotterdam, Holland as well. I don't know that it was actually Gundam, but it was definitely a Japanese-anime-origin battlesuit of some kind. I tried to get a picture of it when I was there, but it was raining hard and my camera couldn't capture it well from the distance I needed to stay away to keep dry. I've never been able to Google up other evidence of it, but maybe a Dutch Boinger can corroborate . . .

Nuts, I was just in that area the last two days. Navigating around the station is a PITA. Guess I'll look for it the next time I need to take a train from there. Wouldn't dream of going back to Shinjuku just to get a photo with the Gundam.

Any idea where exactly it is? Doesn't look like the main station in Shinjuku, might be one of the other lines?

The statue is on the Seibu-Shinjuku train line, but it's not in Shinjuku. It's at Kami-Igusa Station in Suginami-ku, Tokyo.

Ah okay that explains the lack of tall buildings in the photo. Thanks Braincelljupiter!
