Dance number from Pop Gear, 1965 Brit Invasion movie
A spiffy dance number from Pop Gear, a 1965 compilation of British Invasion song "videos." According to IMDB, it "includes bands such as The Animals, Herman's Hermits, Peter and Gordon, and the Spencer Davis Group (with Steve Winwood). The film also features bookend live performances by The Beatles." (Via Otomano NSFW)

Pop Gear pops up on cable every once in a while. I caught it a few months ago. It's notable for the interesting acts that weren't part of the British Invasion. Remember, this was made for a UK audience, and not all these acts made inroads in the US, so they're mostly unknown here.
As for the Beatles "bookends", it's just some tacked-on convert footage, and seems completely out of sync with the rest of the film.
Apparently, they intended to one of these a year, but only the one got produced.
My god. The origin of mom jeans.
That girl in the purple top could be Jessica Alba's mom...
"We're sorry this video is no longer available."
YESSS!!! My FAVOURITE musical era.
Jimmy Savile, how's about that then.
when women looked like women, dancers didn't have to be anorexic and singers could look like toads and have voices like gods....
MTV,you have a lot to answer for
Seriously, Barbra Streisand would be singing in a Denny's in Bakersfield, trying to make the rent. Watching old Ed Sullivan shows, the talent is amazing, but not as amazing as the teeth.
Not just MTV, but my generation has a lot to answer for. It's us choosing the top forty.
NSFW???
You have to look at the BIG picture...how can the past rompings of what are now 50 and 60 year old grandmothers be NSFW?
This is something that has always puzzled me in my perception of anything someone might consider pornographic...
Petreboing, it's not this clip that is NSFW, it's the Otromano blog they are hat-tipping and linking to.
Pop Gear is a fantastic time capsule. It was probably great to see in a theater with the widescreen aspect ratio and the cinematography is blazingly good. You can even enjoy someone like milquetoast Matt Monroe because of the way that it's filmed.
Heer's the original post I did to accompany it when I first uploaded it. Review of the film plus multiple clips. There's an assload (get it?!) of clips from this movie on line used in the review, but when I saw there was no gold pants dance, well, nature took its course.
Whoops!

It also features this fine, Joe Meek produced performance by The Honeycombs.

The blond guy at the begining of this clip is Jimmy Savile who hosted Top of the Pops - a hugely popular chart type show of that time. He seemed never to age and ended up getting a knighthood to go with the Prince Valiant hairdo.
