Dalai Lama to start a celebrity t-shirt line?

Fashionista blog reports that street fashion brand Tonic will launch a personally-branded t-shirt line with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, with proceeds benefiting charities of his choosing.

The tees haven't been released yet, but they'll debut online in October, after similar shirts from Donna Karan (in July) and Luella Bartley.

Are you trying to stir up shit, missy? Hmmm. Let me just get this over with now. Why aren't there any gay designers listed? Because he's homophobic. No, he's not! Yes, he is! He had peasants' eyeballs gouged out! But he's better than the pope! Tibet is better off under China. All Tibetans are not named Jetsun Jamphel Ngawang Lobsang Yeshe Tenzin Gyatso (although it would be okay if they were all named Jetsun!)

Does anybody have anything new to add?

I recall that years ago, a tourist in Lhasa wearing a Phil Silvers "Sgt. Bilko" t-shirt was mobbed and attacked because of the actor's resemblance to His Holiness. Does this indicate that one should not wear the new DL shirt at, say, the Museum of Television and Radio?

What are the chances those shirts will be made in China?

Ah, the quiet, contemplative break from worldliness of the monastic Buddhist tradition.

The cognitive dissonance is bracing, isn't it?

I remember that, it was Chinese soldiers attacking the tourist, not a "mob"
