Disney's "ZOMG terrists gonna kill us all!!!1!ONE" patch

Scott sez, "A buddy of mine who works fraud security got ahold of this patch at a Disney conference." Love it -- "Do you see someone acting odd at a huge, postmodern constructed environment where the crowds run to Tokyo subway density, the food is all seasoned with high-fructose corn syrup, the lines are up to three hours long, and vacationers with children in tow converge from every corner of the globe? Report it! They might be terrorists! ZOMG!" Link (Thanks, Scott!)

The way Mickey crooks his eyebrows makes him look like he's casing Disneyland for a big heist.

"Minnie's beloved collection of petticoats will be mine! Ho ho!"

It's one of those nebulous terms I could never really wrap my head around, so maybe someone can tell me: what exactly makes disneyland "postmodern?"

Take a look at this

That is obviously a leather drink coaster, not a patch.

@#2BrianD:

From Wikipedia:
"Postmodern architecture was an international style whose first examples are generally cited as being from the 1950s, and which continues to influence present-day architecture. Postmodernity in architecture is generally thought to be heralded by the return of "wit, ornament and reference" to architecture in response to the formalism of the International Style of modernism. As with many cultural movements, some of postmodernism's most pronounced and visible ideas can be seen in architecture. The functional and formalized shapes and spaces of the modernist movement are replaced by unapologetically diverse aesthetics: styles collide, form is adopted for its own sake, and new ways of viewing familiar styles and space abound."

do you ever leave it? 40's nazi spies, 50's reds under the bed, 60's hippie drug freaks, 70's - well the 70's weren't bad, except for disco, 80's big hair people, and then the muslims started getting popular ... gotta have a scapegoat, gotta have fear

M-I-C

See you real soon!

K-E-Y

Why? Because you are suspicious. Or just different. Or maybe I just wanna pick on somebody because I'm having a bad day. I don't need a reason, but you do.

LOL @ Ben (#9)

But seriously folks, this is probably an internal security program at Disneyland (note the reflection of Sleeping Beauty castle and Grizzly Mountain in Mickey's glasses, representing Disneyland and California Adventure), and is not, as some have suggested, a program to inspire fear in the general populace.

I don't really understand the attitude here... unless, of course, you don't think that Disney should be practicing security at all, but a densely packed, manufactured environment seems like a pretty high-profile target for crime. I appreciate efforts taken to keep me safe- as long as they don't begin to cross over into profiling.

No, that's done with biometric data collection at the gate.

[Spelled "ZOMG" wrong in the title.]

Reminds me of the Banterist spoof Platinum MetroCard for the NYC subway system: "Peace of Mind-- Leave your bags unattended in the station or on the train without consequence. And if you see something, you don't have to say something. (Si ves algo, no problemo)."

"Postmodern" = weird for the sake of being weird. At least according to Moe Szyslak, and he's never wrong.

Nothing quite commands authority and respect like security speaking in the voice of a castrati.

If Mickey were a better sorcerer he wouldn't need this community watch thing.

As a current Disneyland Cast Member I can tell you this is nothing new. This logo and phrase has been apart of Cast Member vocabulary for at least 5 years.

Oh and it has nothing to do with terrorism and EVERYTHING to do with loss prevention. It means, "If you see your friends stealing sh*t from the company, please rat them out. kthnxbye."

I'm surprised that nobody has corrected the title of this article yet. BoingBoing is usually very good about that. This is obviously not a patch, but a leather drink coaster.

Take a look at this

Thericketandoo is correct. I too am current Disneyland Cast Member and this is a loss prevention program used backstage.

Why do people always leap to terrorism? How lame.

Take a look at this

Lame? I should think that someone who wears a cartoon character costume and a "Don't forget to snitch!" patch would be more tolerant.

Take a look at this

Teresa, are you suggesting that everyone who works at Disneyland is a character? If so, there are over 20,000 CMs employed at the DLR and I would guess that less than 10% of them are characters.

If not, Liplash has a point.

The presumption that this is a terrorism watch IS warranted, as "If you see something, say something" is the motto of the NYC Metropolitan Transit Authority's tips program. I wonder sometimes whether the MTA is at all aware how much of a joke that's considered. Anyone who lived in NYC pre-Ghouliani knows the crazy shit that transpires in the subways is the main attraction. Likewise, non-Iger-approved events at Disney parks (ie, Rev. Billy and the Stop Shopping Choir evangelizing on Main Street, Banksy's little Guantanamo effigy) are the best you can hope for in post-peak Disney-mediated experiences.
