liar
but I guess you were born in the 70's
Not even. He's 20.
And a philosophy student at Vassar. He thinks the BB posters are sacred cows? Too funny. I like Mark's art. It isn't what I prefer for myself but I try not to judge in these matters. This "Map of everything" above very clearly reflects Mark's love of retro 50's style.
So... Jame W, since your such an expert. Please share with us your knowledge of Art. Who is your fav these days?
As the owner of a vintage store specializing in Mid Century Modern(MCM), here's my two shiny pennies.
Mark's artwork is reminiscent of Charles Eames early illustrations with a new slant. Because an artwork has mass appeal doesn't mean it's "crap".
While I prefer MCM era originals, there is definitely a huge market for MCM style design with a 'superflat' bent.
Also you have to take into consideration that MCM originals are out of financial reach for many, and so Mark's offering a good looking print that appeals to SHAG enthusiasts and people looking to avoid IKEA Mass Market Crap (Yeah I said it). It's a good choice.
James W, there is an enormous chasm between criticism of a work and calling something "dreadful" and "crap." If you told an artist to his face that his work was "crap" within earshot of me, I would give you an earful. If it was my place, I'd kick your ass out.
Get some manners.
I guess that's really it: manners.
Manners keep you alive. Manners permit commerce and learning.
Manners preserve that within you that keeps you from slipping into that existential void. Bow to your opponent. Bow to your teacher. Bow to yourself. Forget manners and forget yourself.

advice for mark - sell your prints for much higher - you won't be accused of crappery as much.
I like it. My advice, try selling at $50.00 and see how it goes. That's a very fair price for good paper and ink. I would actually suggest trying a print on canvus, because sometimes the fine texture can make the color pop better. Down the road you can increase your price as you build a reputation. Good work.

Ahhhhhh. There now. Much better.
Takuan, I wouldn't say he's lying; it's more like he's talking out of the wrong orifice, and hasn't learned yet that other people can spot it. If he really is twenty, I'll give him a little leeway for not being able to tell Retro-Futurist from Gen X, though rather less for mixing it up with Web 2.0. He gets no points at all for throwing in a ringer like "the Xeni Jardin aesthetic."
However, I see no reason to excuse the bad manners. He's old enough to know better.
