Steampunk Mac Mini

Jake von Slatt sez, "I have always described Steampunk as the intersection of technology and romance and the email I got last night from Maker Dave Veloz proves it! Look what he made for Jenn, his lovely bride to be and fellow Steampunk aficionado!"
Awww -- that's one happily married couple, all right! Link (Thanks, Jake!)

Nixie tubes always bump up the cool factor, but in this case I'm not sure it's quite period-apropos. Perhaps flipping cards?
It is the keyboard I'm lusting after ...
What's this obsession with posting about "steampunk this" and "steampunk that"? Frankly, I prefer minimalism over steampunk and have no interest in steampunk. Should I just unsubscribe from Boing Boing, then?
It(steampunk) doesn't particularly float my boat either ,but that's no reason to not come to BoingBoing. There are many other wunderful! things up here. I'm here personally for the weird artistic renditions of Christina Ricci with meat and, of course, the unicorns.
Gruppler, if a few posts (one in 30, going by the home page right now) bother you that much, you must be upset a lot.
Why complain about 3% of the free content? Does 100% have to be exactly to your liking? There's only one way to ensure that: not read anything.
Instead of complaining or unsubscribing, here's a handy tip: skip over it. I do that with all kinds of stuff and it's not really that hard. It's even easier than complaining.
Reminds me of the throw-back style in the Dune movie. This is, after all a design style, and although I find that it can be beautiful, with lots of shinny brass, something like this key board would seem to demand modern, ergonomic design. The screen is great, and does not need to be easier to use.
Seriously, I'm starting to wish for an "everything except steampunk" boingboing feed.
That... is... REPULSIVE! Every design-sensitive gene and synapse is crying out in pain. Bleugh.
Golly, I'm surprised that so many of you dislike it (and that you waste your time reading and commenting on what doesn't interest you...).
*I* thought the design, and execution exquisite. More importantly, regardless of whether you dig the style, the inventiveness and craftsmanship make the creator a true Happy Mutant, and hence deserving of applause (IMNSOHO).
its true that BB has an infatuation with steampunk. most of the time what BB chooses to show off as steampunk is pretty badly done.
this desktop however is done perfect in my eyes. not like that "steampunk skateboard" posted months ago. WTF was that all about.
the orchid is the cherry on top!
I am all for a beautifully crafted object that is so clearly a labour of love, but really, too much of a good thing can rot your teeth ok? Can we please have a boingsteampunkboing website and be done with it??
What's wrong with steampunk? You guys just here for the torture?
I think the individual pieces shown above have been featured on hack-a-day at one time or another over the past while.
Also ditto on Jeff's Dune comment, very similar feel indeed.
I didn't mean to sound like I was complaining. I just wish there were posts about "minimalistic this" and "minimalistic that" instead of so much steampunk. Yeah, I know how to skip over stuff; that wasn't the point of my post.
I just wish there were posts about "minimalistic this" and "minimalistic that"..
Cory posts about minimalist living spaces rather regularly. His whole family is now living in a mayonnaise jar with bookshelves for stairs.
You guys are too funny. Well, if you happen to like Steampunked stuff, and would like more detailed pictures, then hop on over to the following link (don't say I didn't warn you!): http://s135.photobucket.com/albums/q133/david_veloz/Steampunk%20re-Make/
I don't think minimalism and anachronistic design have to be mutually exclusive. In fact I didn't find much about this particular design in excess but the lamp, cameos and clock, none of which are part of the computer. I would probably get tired of staring at the wooden thing on the base of the monitor too, though ot looks a lot better than the cheesy geometric plastic base of my monitor.
I do hope that anachronistic design expands beyond Victorian and "L'Empire" style, maybe adopting instead the aesthetic of 1950s military radio equipment. That would be sweet.
Racer X, they're sure not here for the hunting, and all they do is complain about the free ice cream.
That keyboard is gorgeous.
Gruppler, you like minimalism? Plenty of sites out there will oblige you. Me, I figure minimalism is our gift to the future: we do the boring bits, and they get to add their choice of decoration and useful UI hacks.
License, that suggestion makes my heart race.
