Using sex to advocate for student housing

The French organization Unef, which apparently advocates for student housing, ran this funny and rude ad that was reported on in the English edition of Der Spiegel. Link, Link to Der Spiegel article

It's pretty clear, but for those who don't know French, it says "Some people pretend that students don't have problems with housing...Build housing for students!"

What are the two dots on the girl's butt?

That's where you plug in the charger.

Took me a while to notice Mom and Dad on either side.

Take a look at this

I was so focused on the girl's shapely behind that I didn't even notice the two older people in the bed until the page reloaded for me to comment. She's got a nice butt, but yeah, what's with the dots? If a girl has butt dimples that's usually where they are, but in this case they're probably poorly chosen and\or drawn tattoos. The advertiser should've airbrushed them out. They ditract from the message....Whatever that is.

Take a look at this

They're moles, people. If go look in a mirror, I suspect you'll find a few on yourself.

It's nice to see some advertisers not airbrushing their models within an inch of their life for once.

Seriously NSFW. A buffer would have been nice.

I am not a doctor, but I took a very close look at those moles.

I have no diagnosis abilities, I just took a very close look.

#10: Oh, if you're allowed to read Boing Boing at work in the first place, as you are apparently doing, I think it's fine. I'm sure it's SFW in France. Where do you work, the FCC?

Take a look at this

Dude, seriously? Most any company is going to frown upon an image like that and if you're boss is walking by you're going to get busted so quick it will make your head spin. I agree with the buffer statement. This popped right up in my RSS feed and I shouldn't be having to use Adblock to remove legit BB images. That was exceedingly NSFW and not cool at all.

I'm surprised by how many here seem to work in the United Arab Emirates.

#10 and # 14, really, because nude photos are sort of a red flag in any work environment. Since the majority of BB content doesn't tend to have nudity, it usually isn't an issue.

You apparently both work at communist nudist camps.

/not a prude
//love naked ladies
///they can make work "complicated" though

perhaps you should fight your perverted management for your basic human rights - while you still have some

As #12 said, you wouldn't get in trouble for browsing BoingBoing at work, but you would for a really small picture of a woman's ass?

Sheesh. You need a warning system for when your boss is coming, I think.

Take a look at this

if the same image appeared in a magazine or other printed-work page opposite to a work related item, would there be a problem? The Grundy-perverts have as much power as we give them.

Take a look at this

they are not moles, they are sacral dimples! have you never seen nekkid people?

Take a look at this

Fine, I guess all images get blocked from BB as it's pretty obvious that us "UAE" employees have absolute prudes for bosses and that we shouldn't worry about silly little things like corporate policies and acceptable use in regards to viewing images that may be deemed offensive to another person.

Take a look at this

This is indeed "SFW" in France. Probably because the French are less obsessed. But more probably, because, inspite of what's been told, the French do WORK at work instead of surfing the internet.

I'm surprised by how many here seem to work in the United Arab Emirates.

That would explain quite a few things. Quite a few.

The censoring software at my old job categorised Boingboing as "Porn", but didn't block it. Something I didn't realise until I was reprimanded for surfing for porn at work.

Here is a link to a higher resolution picture where you can see that the dots on the girl's behind are actually little star tattoos :

any person who finds this image offensive is a sexual deviate. Pure and simple.

Thalrion, it doesn't have anything to do with prudes for bosses, it has everything to do with companies that don't want to get bankrupted. Modern "hostile environment" law, as created by the prudish ideologues of anti-sex feminism, holds that allowing nude pictures of women in the workplace is sexual harassment.

Takuan, I fully agree that the anti-sex feminists who decided that the "hostile environment" standard included nude pictures are sexual deviants. If you have any practical, constructive suggestions about how to remove their ideology from American law, I'd be happy to hear them.

Take a look at this

For starters we can reverse the trend for the normal, good and decent people (ie: those who see a picture of a woman as a picture of a woman) to run and hide when the stinking shadow of prudery looms. How dare anyone suggest BoingBoing - and therefore all its readers - be censored because of primitive, anti-humanistic,undemocratic, blood-sucking lawyer generated internal rules at some benighted private employer?

The grundies and fundies get the edge because they yap first and loudest. Time to slap them back to their kennels. They can't pretend to be the only voice or even an important voice if everyone speaks up. Challenge them at every step. Threaten them back with litigation.

Take a look at this

Takun, WTF are you talking about? No one said the image was "offensive". We just said that nudity wasn't SFW because our stupid bosses/jobs are too over-protective.

And your second rant is giving me a headache. Get a grip!

And put the dude on top while you're at it!

Take a look at this

Just warming up... "Suitable" or "Not Suitable"?
Why? Who says? Why? Protective? Who? From What?

Obviously the implication is that SOMEONE finds the image offensive. Who? Why? Protection implies attack. Who is attacking? If you have stupid bosses, educate them. Use the law if needed. That is why it is there.

Stupid status quos remain due to moral cowardice.
If someone claims to be offended, let them stand up.
What business do your co-workers have peering over your shoulder in the hopes of being scandalized by a fleeting palm-sized image? Do they have unresolved sexual control issues? Doesn't your employer have a duty to protect you from their deviance?

Take a look at this

I have no problem with the image or it's prominence / lack of a buffer. But the next time you're mulling over why BoingBoing is classified by SmartFilter as having "incidental nudity," realize that it is, in fact, true.

all the use of filters does is prove a company can't make good hiring choices
