I think my nightmares just found a new soundtrack.
Very late 60s' or even early 70s'.
My cousins had this game, although I never actually played it or saw it in operation. It came with a clear plastic face mask. It wasn't clear to me what use that was; wasn't the pie-ing supposed to be a surprise?
HAHA
"Get your face full of GOOOOOOO!!!!!"
so dirty...
and it's called "Pie Face"!! A derogatory term for Inuits.
Ah, ok, reviewing the video cleared that up. You got behind the mask when your turn came up.
I think I remember another commercial, one where a whole family played and there wasn't an elaborate cardboard frame for the mask.
i
want
this
game.
now.
Why would one play this game? It seems pretty inevitable that you will get a pie in the face.
All I can think is "bukkake face."
I like pie.
Hot pockets, anyone?
The old "pie in the face" has become almost nonexistent in modern society. Crying shame.
Come to think of it, I'd find it damned suspicious if someone was walking up to me with a cream pie at all.
And here's the page on BoardGameGeek: http://boardgamegeek.com/game/18755
Turn it upside down and you've got the home version of "Kicked In The Nuts."
The lengths kids used to have to go to for whippits.
Here in LA on Spanish TV there is some show where they still do pie-in-the-face. There are midget clowns and audience members that come up and participate. There are also girls in bikinis standing around but unfortunately there are not part of the pie-in-the-face fun.
This also reminds me of this 70's musical movie Bugsy Malone where are all of the the actors were kids playing adult mobsters during the 20's prohibition. Instead of getting killed they get a pie-in-the-face. Maybe this element of the movie inspired this game or vice-versa.
Amazingly I also thought of Bugsy Malone when I saw this. However I thought this should have been in the movie as some sort of Russian Roulette device. I mean c'mon, isn't that what this game is all about? Go around the table, first one to have the pie go off loses!
We had that game growing up. Except we replaced the shaving foam with piping hot apple chutney,

we still love a good ol' bit of pieintheface humour up here in canada. http://www.cbc.ca/news/story/2000/08/16/peiChretienPie16aug00.html

I keep thinking "Pie facial" for some reason. I don't remember this one from the 60s.
