I'd go far as to say there's one of those in every McDonald's in Australia.

They are collection boxes for the Ronald McDonald House charity. (Because McDonald's doesn't have enough money to fund a charity by themselves)

Just heard a Public Radio interview about "Ronald McDonald" House. The corp gives no money to the charity. The charity gets in-kind donations from McDonald's vendors. i.e. as much coke and paper goods as one can use.

pretty sad....
