Gothic cathedral painted in interactive light

Evoke is an art project that paints the face of the gothic cathedral York Minster with light in response to the voices of the audience who watch it. It's a sweet blend of the psychedelic and the gothic. Link (via IO9)

This is great. I'm going to advertise it to my friends as "video of people screaming at a church."

...Actually, what would be *really* interesting is to see videos of the display while, say, the priest is giving his sermon, or the choir is going through their standard repertoir.

Reminds me of the cathedral in Rouen in France this summer. The facade was "painted" with pixels, changing. Really beautiful. Celebration of Claude Monet, I think.

It's beautiful. Might be the answer for the Catholic Church to fill those empty pews if they jazzed it up a bit. Maybe Guns N' Roses can sing Ave Maria. No sin in being lively at church.
