Who Knew? YouTube is full of excellent Finnish disco dancing instructional videos from the 1970s. Here is one. Poke around a bit and you will find many more from "tisko tanzi" masters Jack and Jez of Zero Patrol, for example: 1, 2, 3, and this user has lots more. (via NOSLO)
Chiming in to brag: I've danced with this guy. He came to give us a dance class, a bunch of ungrateful 4th-graders in suburban Helsinki in 1990. Lovely old feller.
it's one thing to impose a moratorium on saying i've seen that on something that has been circulating online for a few weeks/months...
quite another for a video that has been posted over 3 years ago, had over a million hits and been quite popular, and passing it off as something new that not a lot of people have seen...
Not only has this video been around forever, it's been used for all kinds of random purposes. For example (pretty funny, but might help to be a fan of the music):
A friend of mine once told me that he was forced to watch this in school for some learning purpose.
There's also the lovely Armi and Dani of Finnish fame. This music video's one of my favourites-- it's just so... Something.
(P.s. fi.: tanssi 'dance')
I nominate this as possibly the funniest and most amazing thing ever posted on BoingBoing.
What's funnier?
Seeing grandparents disco dancing.
or
The horrible Disco music their playing?
at least they are shaking it, unlike some pudgy, internet addicted, pop-swilling layabouts who shall remain nameless. (you know who you are)
I keep waiting for the Dschinghis Khan to pop out! oh wait, it is Dschinghis Khan!!
This is probably one of my most favorite YouTube videos of all time. We used loops of it as part of a video projected behind my band at a show once.
Why I love teh internets, reason #1.
Grandma's got some pretty good moves. And she's stacked, too.
Granpa's pantload step is something else, though. An would it have killed him to find some clean tennis shoes?
Loistava!
This is great. But, it's old. Check out cheesy WFMU's Euro disco video archive:

i had started rotoscoping this in flash about a year ago. i had no idea it was finnish. nice!
Funny video BUT it has been around for ages! Pretty much since you tube started. Now Zero Patrol trying to ride the popularity wave...
Much funnier (and cooler) are the DANCE PARTY USA video series...now that's the real stuff

There's something hysterically funny about saying "it has been around for ages" and "it's old" in reference to a video from the 1970s. Well, yeah!
I call for a moratorium on "I've already seen it."
DUPE. Posted 4 years and 2 days ago ...
Although is it Czech or Finnish??

Nag nag. It's "Disko tanssi". Quite old video though, haven't seen them in ages in television.

no moratorium....let it be.
Been there, tried that, and I ain't going back. That guy was my dance teacher when I was 15. Scary stuff ...
