Larva chocolate

This lovely Larva Chocolate (Youchu Choco) is hand-made by a confectionery in the Akita prefecture of northern Japan. There are no real beetles in the candy but its legs are dried squid tentacles. More info on this tasty-looking treat at Laughing Squid. Link

Interesting... at once, both cute and disgusting. By the way, I believe the legs are not squid tentacles, but rather shredded dried squid, which is a popular snack in Japan.

I think I'd prefer beetles to "candied squid."

But then I haven't tried them yet.

In many parts of Western Japan people still eat real insects, usually pan fried in sweetened soy sauce. A few of my Japanese friends eat them whenever they're in season (late summer, I believe).
