Reading of the US Constitution

Debra Jean Dean has done a wonderful, expertly engineered reading of the US Constitution, one of the most inspiring documents ever penned. The reading is released under a Creative Commons license. Link (Thanks, We The People...!)

I don't get the point of the shirt.
Mounting evidence suggests that the incumbent President and Vice President have conducted "treason, bribery, and other high crimes". Yet no impeachment has been held by Congress.

More proof that the Democrats have no cojones.

RE #2 - incumbent president? Hello, the election is over, I think you mean "The President and Vice President that beat that fellow from MA and his friend from SC".

Impeachment of the President? You mean like happened to the previous President who lied under oath in a federal court, and had to surrender his law license? Is that what you're talking about?

You know, Nixon was never impeached. Let that sink in for a minute. He stepped up and choose not to put the country though such a proceeding, Bill apparently thought Monica was worth it (how could that make Hillary feel?)...

And, as a final happy thought - these kind folks

Hillary has feelings? I don't think crocodile tears count.

That said, blowjobs and cigar dildos are great; tyranny, torture, invasion, corporatism, empire, hegemony, and police states not so much. Which one warrants impeachment proceedings again?

Who will repeal the USAPATRIOT Act?
Who will repeal the Military Commissions Act of 2006?
Who will repeal the Real ID Act?

Who will call shenanigans on the "war on terror" and the "immigration problem"?

Nothing against the constitution, but that reading seems a bit lacklustre to me. Quite robotic and plain.

Nice shirt though.

Robotic? Really? I don't think so, but I may be biased.

Debra Jean IS a paralegal though....which may have influenced the tone. And the document was written by lawyers. It skips back and forth from a poetic visionary tone to complex legalese. There are sentences in it that are almost a full page long. That's how it's written, and we thought it better to do it all the same rather than getting misty eyed in the reading when it gets poetic.

It IS read without pomp...We thought about doing a more "stirring" reading, but felt that would be editorializing where we had no place.

Some people probably would have put "The Star Spangled Banner" under it, but that's not our style.

Robotic? Maybe. Then again, there's always the Star Trek way!

Hopefully, no one. Understand that freedom is not free. These are tools that are used to thwart terrorism. You may not think so, but rest assured that though they are not perfect, they do have an effect.

I've done things that I am proud of, and things that I am not proud of, to keep your @ss safe.

No, these are tools to commit terrorism.
Understand that freedom is not free.
Right, freedom costs $1.05. ;)

Yeah, the effect is further retaliation.

The world has NEVER been safe. You're either a fool or an imbecile.

Why don't you move to the UK, I understand they've already welcomed their jihadist overlords with open arms.

RE: #7 - Zuzu, Bill Clinton was not impeached for a blowjob or a cigar dildo, not even for having the poor taste to have his adventures at the office and not even for taking advantage of an employee - no, he was impeached for lying, under oath, in a federal court. Did he choose to lie about anything of a serious nature? No, he choose to lie about his sexual abuse of an intern at his office. Then his supporters called foul, since "everybody lies about sex" - maybe yes, maybe no, but only Bill Clinton, then-leader of the free world, did it in front of a camera in court and left a big gob of evidence on an other-wise plain blue dress in a plus size.

I liked the t-shirt seen at a bush rally:
"Will someone PLEASE give this idiot a blow-job so we can impeach him!)

Take a look at this

Good grief, you Bush fans shouldn't try to go down that path about presidents lying.

Yes, Clinton lied about the blow-job, but Bush and Cheney have CLEARLY lied about so much more: the role of Saddam in 9/11, the connection between Saddam and Bin Laden, the existence of WMDs in Iraq, the leaking of Palerie Plame's identity, and on and on. There's plenty of video on the web to PROVE the nut jobs lied.

Of course, you can push back that bush et al didn't lie UNDER OATH, but we all know that's a specious argument.

RE: #16 - Interesting, with all this "CLEARLY" obvious proof of Bush/Cheny lying AND a simple majority in both the House and Senate, still the only impeachment proceedings against them was held in a basement room at the Capitol. It seems Nancy Pelosi doesn't have the, uhm, inclination to give it a try. Based on my reading of the matter, it seems all she would need is a handful of Republican senators to vote with the Democrats against the President and impeach him (the House originates the Articles of Impeachment, but the Senate investigates and approves (or not) those articles)...

RE: The photo. Negotiations were undertaken over how to enter the court that cold morning to get a cuppa in the public restaurant. As one SCOTUS officer put it, "anything you are wearing that furthers your cause" must come off. Of course, had we been wearing nike or other corporate logos it wouldn't have been an issue. The cause of corporate free speech has friends in high places, no?

Those interested in photos and coverage of the latest demo at the court (January 11, 2008) can find it here: http://www.witnesstorture.org/jan11_2008

"You know, Nixon was never impeached. Let that sink in for a minute. He stepped up and choose not to put the country though such a proceeding"

I think you meant to say that Milhous was never convicted...

If you read the shirt carefully, you may actually come to understand my message:
It's a two step process — the House impeaches/the Senate convicts and removes —

“Article 1
RESOLVED, That Richard M. Nixon, President of the United States, is impeached for high crimes and misdemeanours, and that the following articles of impeachment to be exhibited to the Senate:

ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT EXHIBITED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA IN THE NAME OF ITSELF AND OF ALL OF THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AGAINST RICHARD M. NIXON, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN MAINTENANCE AND SUPPORT OF ITS IMPEACHMENT AGAINST HIM FOR HIGH CRIMES AND MISDEMEANOURS...[and so forth...you get the idea]

Adopted 27-11 by the Committee on the Judiciary of the House of Representatives, at 7.07pm on Saturday, 27th July, 1974, in Room 2141 of the Rayburn Office Building, Washington D.C.”

http://watergate.info/impeachment/impeachment-articles.shtml

So Milhous resigned BEFORE the Senate received the Articles of Impeachment from the House of Representatives...and it was a forgone conclusion that the Full House would pass the resolution of the House Judiciary Committee within 48 hours. The Constitution states that the House of Representatives votes to impeach and the Senate then votes to remove the officeholder under the supervision of the Chief Justice of the United States.
