Huge rat discovered in Indonesia
Scientists discovered this gorgeous rat in the eastern Papua province of Indonesia. They found it in an isolated forest where last year researchers reported the discovery of countless new species. At the time, a co-leader of the expedition said that the bit of jungle is "as close to the Garden of Eden as you’re going to find on Earth." From the Associated Press:

That thing is just adorable!
Too bad this wasn't found in Sumatra!
ROUS!!!
Wow, that thing is surprisingly cute. Look at all that fur! I wanna pet it!
Almost looks like a Billy-Bumbler, save for the absence of the gold ringed eyes and curley tail :)
Maybe it's a Asia thing but we have them bigger than that on our residential compounds in New Delhi. The cats are terrified of them. The first time I saw one I thought it was a gigantic cat until I saw the tail. They are mean suckers.
actually in sardegna (italy) there was a bigger one.
found it through a friend of mine who lives there

"The Giant Rat of Sumatra" by Rick Boyer, an excellent pastiche, or fan-fiction, Sherlock Holmes story based on an intriguing remark in The Canon, can be read in his compilation, "A Sherlockian Quartet," here:

theres maybe even the off chance that this type of rat can control its BM's
it'd be the perfect pet!
I finally see how that old story about "the cats will eat the rats and the rats will eat the cats and we'll get the cat skins for nothing" can be made to actually generate a sustainable income!
"Matilda Briggs was not the name of a young woman, Watson," said Holmes in a reminiscent voice. "It was a ship which is associated with the giant rat of Sumatra, a story for which the world is not yet prepared. But what do we know about vampires? Does it come within our purview either? Anything is better than stagnation, but really we seem to have been switched on to a Grimms' fairy tale. Make a long arm, Watson, and see what V has to say."

I good indicator that I've been spending too much around little kids -- I caught myself wishing that rat wore a chef's hat and would whip me up some risotto.

GO NINJA GO NINJA GO!!
Yes, when I think of the Garden of Eden, bedraggled giant rats are the first things that spring to mind.
#5=Win...if I wasn't married, I would have your babies...if I wasn't a guy.
If someone domesticates these, please let me know. I would love to walk around my neighborhood in suburbia with one of these guys on a leash.
R.O.U.S from the Princess Bride?

Even plain old pet rats can do that-- it's pretty easy to train them to use a litter tray.
I want one, too! So fuzzy!
