Sweet rolling tiny desk with lots of swing-out drawers and surfaces
Hot damn but this Creative Industries miniature, rolling desk seems made for me any my tiny flat and gear fetish. No info on the site about how to buy it, alas, but if it's anything like reasonably priced, I think I see one in my future.

I think the curved edges are a plus for small spaces, too, if you're like me and tend to run into things.
(currently sporting a 3 1/2 inch scar from running into an uncovered wireless card. them puppies is sharp!)
There have been desks/storage units similar to this around for a while. They're handy. I know a number of artists who swear by them in their studios.
You'll definitely have to try one out with a real laptop. The trike design just makes me think "tippy".
Remember seeing that a few months ago on Apartment Therapy.
You can purchase it from Deeply Madly Living, saw it on their show floor a few weeks back. Expensive product... http://www.deeplymadlyliving.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=12_25&products_id=136
This reminds me of the robot from "A Grand Day Out with Wallace and Gromit": http://images.google.com/images?q=wallace%20gromit%20moon%20robot
Cool, but $2200 cool? I think I'll continue to make do with the lap I got for free when I sat down.
does anyone have a (MUCH) less expensive alternative that they've tried? this is something that i could really use, but alas if i could afford $2200, i could probably afford a place big enough so i didnt need it.
I'm with Radioactive Boy Scout. $2200 is way out of my range for this too. Anyone got a tip on a knock-off?
This is essentially a modern version of a Davenport desk, which was commonly used on board sailing vessels over a hundred years ago. Real, honest-to-goodness antique Davenport desks from the 1700s may not cost this much, even if they're in good condition.
My advice is to get a real Davenport.
It's funny that this kind of clever but disposable look is now thought of as "high end" and priced accordingly. When I first saw it, I was interested, but at that price I'm afraid I'll stick with my current wheelbarrow-and-paper bag solution.
As an aside (in case anyone is still looking at this post) i just got an email back from CIO (the original makers). Supposedly, it will be on sale Feb, 2008 for 1,600 Euros... They also said that it was not available right now.
Hey Cory. What about getting a custom made flight case? Something like This. Or the one on this page. AT least when you move around you can transport all your tech' in safety.
I do like the look of the Davenport desks though. There are a few going on EBay. I might think about knocking something up in Plywood or MDF.
