I'll confess I don't understand how the word 'immanent' got verbed.
If you have to mangle a word for snark's sake, 'Imminentize the Eschaton' would make a lot more sense. "George, are you sure you're the one St. John the Divine was talking about?" "Sure as shootin', Condi. Gimme that there briefcase, and go say your prayers."
Any link that causes me to grab and review several books and websites is a good link. Good thing I had my trusty copy of "The Illuminatus Trilogy" handy.
Nice Charles Stross Quote
<cough> Much as I'm fond of Charlie Stross, that would be a Robert Anton Wilson/Bob Shea quote.
As I understand it, the phrase was coined by Eric Voegelin in the early 1950s.

Edit: Beanolini's link sheds a lot of light on my question, it seems.

One should miss RAW and Bob Shea,
Regardless of it's origin, it's on the sign cause it's a /b/ meme.

"No shirt, no shoes. . . no whimsy"
...It needs one more option: to change "The Happiest Place On Earth" to something more apropos :-P
Thanks Beanolini for that link. I had no idea that it came from somewhere prior to the Illuminatus series. You learn something every day...
