Crystal-enhanced USB keys and earphones

Crystal pushers Swarovski and electronics maker Philips have teamed up to offer some glamtastic, $178, 1-gig USB keys, one of which is shaped like a heart. Some fetching earphones "enhanced with a dome of faceted crystal" for digital music players here, too -- $79 a pair. Link to "active-crystals.com." (Thanks, Susannah Breslin!)

Wow! $178 for only 1Gb of space seems a little steep. Obviously, these are more like fashion pieces than USB drives. Nevertheless, the uniqueness of this item would probably be it's design and the crystal. I doubt there would be high demand for this online, except perhaps as a special collector's item.

Good Lord, that "model" (or simulated model-style illustration) looks like a cross between Paris Hilton and Lady Penelope. I guess the idle rich/glamorous super-science hero is the key demographic for this product.

Sure, that'd go great with the jewel-encrusted iPod that I don't have.

I like my cheapass plastic drive that holds 2 gigs for $20, thank you. :P
