Winged bike clips

Droog Design co-founder Gijs Bakker created these winged trouser clips that not only keep your pant leg from getting snagged by your bike's chain or crank but also bring a bit of Mercury's style to your ankles. Made from reflective PVC, the Windrider Bicycle Clips are $15 from the Conran Shop.

@3, yeah. when I rode my bike to work I used rubber bands around my ankles to avoid it. but I wear loose-fitting jeans, I'm guessing it's not much of a problem for those that don't.

the solution to this problem has always been a contest between what makes you look lamer: rubber bands/something similar or a chain guard.

These things have a name, in antiquity. They are called "talaria". Hermes used them, and Perseus. Of course theirs worked better.

It's not so much the pant leg getting stuck in the chain, it's the chain making the pant leg black with grease. This occurs on both legs since wind is wantonly indiscriminate in its direction, the bastard. Naturally this is a bigger problem in an office than it is at Zeitgeist or Gestalt.

I've been using a mini bungie cord/tie down for several years. It has hooks so you don't have to fit it over your foot, and can get it off faster if you're trying to get somewhere fast.

I always just tie a bandana around my leg when needed. I would lose those little things too easily.
