Here's the future of mixed reality technology. A German designer created der Desktop für die Wand, a "desktop for the wall." Practical or not, it's a fun idea. Link(via MAKE:)
I'm not real good with German so I may have missed something but this isn't future anything - it is just old technology. File folders on walls is an old and in some cases still very practical way of doing things. The only novel element here are the computer icon mimicking labels and that is still questionable in terms of originality as labels were used in this fashion before such desktop icons existed.
One of the most common examples are folders for daysheets, setlists, etc on tours which are posted in this fashion in or near the production office. It was in the 90's that I first heard someone jokingly reference desktop icons in relation to such a display but the practice goes back to at least the 1980's in my personal experience (seen then in an institutional office context) and probably much before then.

@Lizardman (#1), I was joking.
Its not all that creative. Ive seen it done many many many times on other websites, mostly by bored college students.
I had one of these, but unfortunately it occasionally drops all the folders onto the ground leaving a blank blue screen. :-(
I think they need blue folders for the Mac version.
Also needs some Velcro-backed cards for Freecell...
What a great idea. Maybe it is not original (as people are saying) but I'm a cluttered person. I think this would help me a lot.
@ David
I should never post before noon - I tend to take things too much at face value when I am up too early.
This would be an awesome foundation for an AR desktop interface. What's up with people?!
