Glass jellyfish sculptures

Rachel sez, "I found these paperweights earlier this year and thought they were amazing, i would love to buy one someday!They are made by artist Richard Satava, a master glassblower who was introduced to glassblowing in 1969 while attending Ocean High School in Pacifica, CA." Reminds me of the amazing Leopold and Rudolph Blashka glass sea creatures from the 1800's. Beautiful!

Indeed, Richard Satava lives in my town, Chico, CA, and makes wonderful stuff at his studio, Satava Art Glass. You can go see the artists at work during the week. Very cool.

That would be Oceana High School in Pacifica, CA. The other high school in town is Terra Nova. So I guess all high schools in Pacifica must have names that end in 'a'.

Satava's work is BEAUTIFUL! Check out the large moon jellyfish sculptures he creates. Someday I would love to buy one. He even has special lamp bases that illuminate them from below.

I've actually seen this guy's jellyfish glasswork in person...the photo here doesn't do the work much justice because it's just so mesmerizing to look at from different angles.

yeah cellocgw, josh simpson's megaplanets are intense. they did a documentary on him on pbs showing how he created those. amazing work.
