Why the hate for something so wonderful? I don't get it. Amy does beautiful work.

We Love This Stuff And Want To See More. Yes, We Certainly Do Not Have Any Further Suggestions Because It Is All Perfect Here. How Are You? I Am Fine. (Don't disemvowel me, bro!)

Woah! I thought disemvoweling was for personal attacks and profanity. Was ordinary criticism and dissatisfaction disemvoweled above? Where are the guidelines for this?

Wow, Boing Boing is really the last place I ever thought I'd have my comments censored. Irony of ironies.

disemvoweling: a form of censorship most effective on those with a multisyllabic vocabulary.

PS I like the work...very sensual...but I don't like the tied up puck/angel in the top right. Something about the stuck out tongue...

Heh, I'd never thought about that, Derek but you're right.

If you disemvowel something like, "I am very dissatisfied with the international politics of the Geoerge W Bush administration" it's way harder to read than if you disemvowel, "Bush supporters all suck dick". Just an example.

It practically encourages snippy trollish behavior over rational discussion. Nobody wants to type up 3 paragraphs of rational discussion only to have it made too painful to read, but they might risk a one liner.

Gee gosh, I can't think of any reason why Mark might be disgusted by a bunch of sour, negative attitudinizing. You don't like Amy Crehore's art? Fine. Ignore it. Move on to something that interests you more, just like the entire rest of the internet does.

Personally, I'm less than thrilled by all this whining about censorship. People, your freedom of speech has not been infringed. You have the same say about what is and isn't allowed on your own websites that the boingers have on theirs, so knock off the angst and say something interesting.

Nonesuch, put the theories back in their proper orifice. The additional difficulty of reading disemvowelled text is far greater than the additional difficulty of reading the more complicated of those two texts.

Very similar to the work of Paul Gauguin.

Where's the insult, SoylentG? For that matter, where am I saying not to voice an opinion if it's critical?

Maybe not, Teresa, but this is BoingBoing! A little hypocritical to do that to comments, given the occasional vehemence Cory has displayed about things like that happening elsewhere.

The painting in the post doesn't do much for me overall, but I love the flower growing between the toes, that's a nice touch.

And to #1 - This is nothing compared to the guy who makes clocks out of random stuff.

@ AboutBlank: Her work reminds me of an equal mix of Rousseau, Donghi and Gauguin.

As regards the comments being "disemvoweled": I don't really see how Danelda's comments would disgust anyone. (Albeit, I don't know why one would come to BoingBoing and then complain about seeing Crehore's paintings here, either.)

In response to the questions about the naked women and monkeys, here's what Crehore has to say:
"The Monkey Series takes place outdoors. The girls have a sense of freedom and relaxation that they don’t have on stage. They are alone on an island basically with monkeys for friends. I suppose the monkey takes the place of the pierrot and the sailor hat makes the monkey a male figure. The viewer will have to decide for himself what it all means."

Kind regards,
-Moniker

Good lord people. Would you walk into someone's house and exclaim, "For crying out loud, you put up ANOTHER photo of your kid?"

If you don't like Boing Boing's interpretation of a "Directory of Wonderful Things," go to Wordpress or somewhere similar and create your own directory of wonderful things.

It's just plain snarky and petty.

What's that Penny Arcade cartoon? Something about how being anonymous and the internet turns normal every day people into jerks? How people behave when they're anonymous is usually a pretty good indicator of their character overall.

I'm closing down this thread. Here as elsewhere: if you don't like the subject, consider skipping the entry. (See also.)
